Clinical Healthcare Support Worker, Band 3- Fracture Clinic (16.5 hours a week)
About the job
The successful candidate will be chaperoning patients in the elective orthopaedic and fracture clinics, and report directly to the trained nurses who will support you in your new post. The candidate will undertake specific delegated tasks, following the appropriate training competency level e.g patient observation, personal care, application of splints and braces, and arranging admission of patients to wards when required.

Across the both sites we have 28 Consultants who specialisms in hand, feet, shoulders, hips, spines and knees. We are friendly and professional team who work with a variety of other multi-disciplinary teams. We are always looking to improving our service, and have taken of several audits and studies surrounding patient centered care and patient information. We welcome new ideas, and staff’s innovations as well as training and developing our staff. There are opportunities to gain competencies in care of the cast and learn how to apply casts and splints.

What we’re looking for
- Ability to get on well with people at all levels and work effectively as a team member.
- To be responsible for working with colleagues and managers to provide a safe and welcoming environment for staff, patients and visitors
- To support cross county provision of services, working in both of the counties Orthopaedic and fracture clinics.
- Under guidance, deliver safe patient care within a challenging and changing clinical environment, using equipment and resources safely and as appropriate.
- To act as a chaperone for patients attending clinic appointments.
- Undertake specific delegated tasks following the appropriate training and competency level e.g. patient observations and patient personal hygiene, application of simple off the shelf splints and braces, remove plaster casts, record ECG, MRSA screening and venepuncture, arranging admission of patients to wards from clinic.

- Communicate effectively especially where patient ability to do so is compromised.
- To deliver safe care within a challenging and changing clinical environment, using equipment and resources safely and as appropriate throughout the cross county service provision, with the support of the trained nurses.

- To input and retrieve patient information from computer based system and maintain accurate and contemporaneous patient records.
- Undertake specific delegated tasks following the appropriate training and competency level e.g. application of simple off the shelf splints and braces, remove plaster casts, record ECG, MRSA screening and venepuncture, arranging admission of patients to wards from clinic.
MOST CHALLENGING PART OF THE JOB
- Working to tight internal or external deadlines.
- Able to adapt quickly to changing priorities and time scales
- Exposure to verbal aggression and resistance during incident investigation
- Dealing with difficult situations and people with the support of the trained nurses.

- Certificate in Adult literacy and Numeracy or GCSE English and Maths
Experience

- Nursing/Health Care assistant experience
- Knowledge of basic nursing and personal care, ability to provide basic nursing skills
