Job overview

We are pleased to announce an exciting new opportunity to join our dedicated midwifery team at Southend Hospital as one of our Community Lead Midwives.

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is now one of the largest Trusts in the country. As a fully established, merged trust we are extremely proud of the maternity services across MSE. Our sites include Southend, Basildon and Broomfield Hospital and two Freestanding Midwifery Units.

Our maternity units are both modern and well equipped which helps contribute to development and progression of our midwives.

Main duties of the job

Have overall (24 hour rotational) continuing clinical responsibility for the Maternity service demonstrating excellent clinical, leadership and professional skills. The ability to develop effective programmes for antenatal, intrapartum and postpartum care, and provide highly specialised advice to the multidisciplinary team. The post-holder will provide strong leadership support to the Maternity Matron / Head of Midwifery, and will demonstrate expert clinical skills, providing advice to staff and colleagues. 

You will be working in collaboration with other multidisciplinary professionals enhancing and promoting the health and wellbeing of mothers and neonates in line with local and national standards relating to maternity care and referrals as appropriate.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife
  • Leadership course or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • Master’s Degree or evidence of studies at this level

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post-registration experience working at Senior/Managerial level
  • Current knowledge of national initiatives directly impacting on Directorate specialties
  • Demonstrable band 6 experience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of data analysis and audit evaluation
  • Experience of financial and budgetary management
