Principal Responsibilities:

To work within and inform the policy framework of the Adult Inpatient Service in the provision of palliative and supportive care by leading the team in ensuring that the aims and objectives of the organisation are met.
The post holder will have a key leadership role at senior level and will provide palliative care knowledge and advanced leadership skills to ensure the delivery of care within the Adult Inpatient Service as part of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT).
The post holder will have direct clinical involvement in the care delivered within the Adult Inpatient Service and take 24-hour responsibility for the overall clinical management of the unit in collaboration with the Registered Manager.
Lead in developing a patient and family led service whilst maintaining and improving clinical standards within the Adult Inpatient Service.
Identify where existing standards should be updated and highlight new developments in practice to all clinical areas across the organisation.
Act as a senior nursing leader within the organisation and as such be involved in the investigation of incidents, supporting peers in other departments, and providing a role model to colleagues across the organisation.
Accountable for managing the control of expenditure within a defined budget and work with the Head of Adult Services to regularly review productivity and expenditure.

Registered Nurse with the NMC
Educated to Degree Level

Desirable criteria

Masters Degree
Palliative Qualification

Experience

Essential criteria

Experience at a senior level (Band 7 minimum)
Experience of leadership and management at senior level (Band 7 minimum)
Awareness of NICE Guidance
Awareness of CQC standards and inspection routines
Experience of working with palliative care patients, or those at end of life. This experience can have been gained in a variety of settings and is not restricted to that within hospice care.

Desirable criteria

Experience in a patient safety role with an understanding of the principles that underpin approaches to improving patient safety.

Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
Knowledge of key patient safety metrics.
Commitment to clinical excellence through continued professional development

Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nursing charity that is there for the whole family. Our specialist nurses, known as Admiral Nurses, provide free, expert advice, support and understanding to help families care for their loved one. Purpose of the job/about the role

Dementia UK has entered into an exciting three-year corporate partnership with a national partner. As a key component of this initiative, we will establish face-to-face Admiral Nurse clinics across the UK. This new team will bring Admiral Nursing to high street locations across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

As part of the national Clinics Programme Team, you will provide in-person biopsychosocial support and advice, sharing your specialist dementia nursing expertise to help families manage the complexities of the condition. Your focus will be on supporting family carers, people affected by dementia, and professionals who require specialist dementia guidance in areas of the UK where Admiral Nurse services are currently unavailable, bringing a much-needed service directly to local communities. Throughout your work, you will consistently promote Admiral Nursing and a family-centred approach to dementia care.

You will receive full support with your continuous professional development from the Admiral Nurse Academy.

As this unique nursing role offers you the opportunity to travel across the country, and will include overnight stays, flexibility is essential. When not delivering face-to-face clinics, you will provide support on our Helpline, working from home.

Admiral Nurse – Delivered Services

Join our Delivered Services team as an Admiral Nurse and bring your specialist dementia nursing expertise to support family carers, people affected by dementia, and professionals who require specialist advice. You’ll be a key member of our team, providing biopsychosocial support through our National Dementia Helpline and Virtual Clinic appointments.

In addition to your core responsibilities, you’ll have the opportunity to lead and support other clinical projects across the charity, benefit from monthly clinical supervision, and participate in a range of learning opportunities to support your ongoing professional development.

As an Admiral Nurse, you’ll be responsible for providing nursing support and expertise, offering practical guidance to colleagues, the general public, those with dementia, and others in supporting family and relationship-centered approaches to dementia care. You’ll also lead and coordinate shifts as required, providing clinical supervision to others and assist with the development, evaluation, audit of the service, carer and supporters in different settings.

To be successful in this position, you’ll need to be an active Registered Nurse on the NMC register with a post-registration qualification or training in dementia care or a relevant subject. You will have significant experience of practicing as an Admiral Nurse or dementia specialist nurse and previously worked with people who have dementia and their family, carer and supporters in different settings.

Strong communication skills are essential, as is a proven track record of providing high standards of clinical leadership and specialist nursing support. You should be adept at providing clinical advice, clinical supervision, and advocating for family carers.
