Job overview

The Anticoagulant Monitoring Service Nurse at Ipswich Hospital are looking for a motivated Registered Nurse to join their small, specialist team in providing a high quality service to their patients. This post is until 21st October 2025 to cover maternity leave and is full time 37.5 hours per week however we would consider part time.

You will join a team who are responsible for the safe dosing of patients, on oral vitamin K antagonists (warfarin) and low molecular weight heparins, providing dosage advise to patients, assessment of high or low international normalised ratio’s (INR’s), pre and post op advice and education regarding anticoagulation therapy. The team mostly carry out clinical assessments and advice to patients over the phone, as well as some face-to-face appointments.

The service is based within the Haematology Department, monitoring approximately 3,000 patients on oral anticoagulant therapy, dosing about 100-125 INR’s each day, with the assistance of a computer dosing system.

The team consists of a Consultant Head of Department, Anticoagulant Nurse Specialists and Anticoagulant Monitoring Service Nurses.

The service is Monday – Friday working (no weekends/bank holidays), 09.00-18.00. Nurses within the team usually work 10.00-18.00.

Internal applicants currently employed by ESNEFT will be offered on a secondment basis only. This will need to be discussed with your line manager

Main duties of the job

A large part of this role will be assessing patients over the phone with part of the role holding face-to-face clinics. You will be advising on their dose of warfarin and warfarin reversal. You will also assess patients with high and low INRs and providing them with education in regards to their anticoagulation therapy.

You will also be providing teaching to other departments, including other nurses and doctors, about anti-coagulations and blood clots. You also be there to provide advice to the multi-disciplinary team.
