Are you a motivated midwife with great organisational skills and experience of working in Governance?

Are you ready to support and coordinate maternity services to ensure that all local and national safety standards and requirements are met?

Can you provide the link between governance and training to ensure learning from service user experience is directly translated into the service training syllabus?

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust has a busy maternity unit with around 3600 births per year. The maternity, perinatal, and women's health service strive for excellence, with quality improvement service development, and user-experience being at the forefront of our journey to excellence. We are a  strong partnership with our Local Maternity and Neonatal System and regional perinatal team and fully believe in collaborative working to drive services forward.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will assist the Child Health and Women's Health Service (CHaWS) quadrumvirate in the continued development of the professional  agenda to achieve consistency of practice, high standards of care and innovation with a strong patient safety focus.  Leading the service in all areas of clinical governance and risk management alongside the team, the post holder will ensure quality assurance, achieving safety and clinical governance objectives within Maternity and Women's Health services. 

The post holder will provide the key link between Maternity services and the Corporate Governance team.

We employ 3,500 staff and serve a local population of around 350,000 people living in west Essex and east Hertfordshire, centred on the M11 corridor and the towns of Harlow, Bishop’s Stortford and Epping. Our extended catchment area incorporates a population of up to 500,000 and includes the areas of Hoddesdon, Cheshunt and Broxbourne in Hertfordshire.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife
  • Evidence of post registration study
  • Educated, or working towards, to the Master's degree level or equivalent experience in Nursing and Midwifery
  • Attended a clinical leadership programme
  • Incident Investigation/ Patient Safety Investigation Training
Desirable criteria
  • Registered Nurse
  • Training in risk assessment
  • Experience in a similar previous role

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Clinical experience at a senior midwifery post (Band 8a and above)
  • Experience in risk management process in relation to incidents
  • Experience of working within a team and alone under minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of the components of governance, risk management, and assurance function; current NHS national policies, standards, requirements and directions that relate to measuring and improving the quality and safety of patient care.
  • Demonstrates commitment to improving the quality of patient care
Desirable criteria
  • Ward manager or deputy experience
  • Active involvement in audit cycle
  • Involvement in investigations regarding complaints and staff performance issues and other HR issues
