Job overview

We are looking for committed  and experienced Children’s Emergency nurses with excellent leadership skills, assessment skills, and enthusiasm to join our paediatric emergency team. We are a busy district general hospital who see on average over 25,000 children per year. We cover a vast area of West Essex and East and North Hertfordshire. 

Are you able to lead a team, do you have mentorship skills, can you remain calm under pressure? If so our friendly and  dynamic nursing team need you, in return we will offer you support in your development and future career.

We have a supportive Practice Development programme, HDU facilitators, APCP and team of nurse specialists as well as a committed and supportive Medical team. 

Main duties of the job

To lead the team in assessing patient’s needs, developing and implementing care plans and evaluating effectiveness on an ongoing basis.

To work in close liaison with other members of the multi disciplinary team, including leading multi disciplinary team meetings and ward rounds. Share knowledge and expertise with other staff including supervision of new  junior and support staff.

To ensure  professional standards are maintained in accordance with the NMC code of professional conduct.

To work closely with parents, carers and relatives to ensure indivdualised patient centred care is provided.

To obtain patient and relative feedback by undertaking clinical rounds with the aim of providing excellent standards of care.

To ensure that nursing documentation is maintained to a high standard.

Be a competent user of and participate in the ongoing development of our new  Electronic Patient Record.

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate knowledge of clinical practice and developments in nursing policy and practice
  • Demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of the principles of safeguarding children and vulnerable adult protection
  • Demonstrate communication skills including inter-personal skills, liaison and negotiating skills, and writing and presentation skills
  • Demonstrate ability in advising senior managers in relation to risk management and quality improvement.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RSCN/RN (child)
  • Post registration study and/or leadership course
  • Mentorship in public service training (ENB 998 / MIPS)
  • Safeguarding training level 3
  • Educated to degree level.
