Job overview
We are looking to recruit an experienced and motivated individual to the role of Junior Sister/Charge Nurse for the Emergency Department.
We are looking for experienced nurses to join our team. You will have strong communication and leadership skills with an eagerness to advance emergency and acute nursing practice. You will be responsible for monitoring patient flow through the department alongside utilising your expert nursing skills.
The ideal candidates will be dynamic and forward thinking with a progressive approach to enhancing patient care and safety within urgent, emergency and acute care services. In addition to excellent clinical skills a good working knowledge of care pathways and the patient journey is required, as is priority focus on communication, safe discharge planning and safe patient transfer.
Main duties of the job
- Work according to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines to work as a named nurse (or key worker) for a defined group of patients and take responsibility for:
- Protect and supporting the health of individual patients and clients
- Assess care and health education needs
- Develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care including discharge planning for each patient
- To be designated to take charge of the ward/department regularly in the absence of the person holding continuing responsibility
- To work in accordance with the Princess Alexandra Hospitals Nursing and Midwifery Strategy and Core Standards
- To maintain effective communication
- To provide a high standard of holistic patient-centered care
- To act as a facilitator/mentor/preceptor to student nurses and others and participate in clinical supervision programmes as appropriate

Experience

- 2 years minimum experience of working within an acute/emergency care environment
Desirable criteria
- Experience in delivery of nurse led services
Skills and Knowledge

- Evidence of addressing issues related to clinical governance

- Leadership skills and awareness of HR practices
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge and understanding of skill-mix and workload management
