We have an opportunity to join our Oncology/Haematology West Bergholt Ward at Colchester Hospital as a Junior Sister / Junior Charge Nurse.
West Bergholt has 28 beds in bays and side rooms. We care for patients with cancer who may be receiving radiotherapy/chemotherapy with either a curative or palliative intent. We strive to achieve both continuity and individualized holistic care to the highest possible standard.
Main duties of the job
In this role you will effectively manage and develop a nursing team and provide professional and clinical leadership in the delivery of high quality, safe, cost effective care to patients and their families. You will be designated to take charge of the Ward regularly in the absence of the Ward Sister.
You will provide inspirational leadership to the department, be positively welcoming, effective and act as a credible role model to the team of Registered Nurses and Healthcare Support Workers. You should be caring, compassionate, forward thinking, well-organised and have a positive attitude towards flexibility and change. You will have well-developed communication and change management skills and share in our vision and commitment to continuously develop and improve. - Attendance at a Leadership Course
- Relevant post registration course (or working towards).
Experience
Essential criteria
- Proven experience within Oncology / Haematology
- Experience at band 5 level including the mentorship of students / new staff.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of leading a team
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of Oncology / Haematology nursing issues.
- Awareness of national initiatives affecting cancer care.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of audit process
