If the answer is yes then we have an exciting opportunity for you in our Site Operations team at Colchester Hospital.

We are looking for a Clinical Flow Manager, with the ability to work with all colleagues throughout the hospital to provide a safe and effective care through the coordination of clinical resources across the Trust 24/7.

We currently have a Full Time & Part Time (25 hours) position available.

Main duties of the job

This will involve supporting with operational management of all site issues as well as facilitating patient flow throughout the clinical areas, to ensure that the patient is admitted in a timely fashion, receives the right treatment in the right place and is signposted to alternative service providers in accordance with agreed pathways and protocols of care. 

You will act as a support for both the Hospital at Night team and ward staff out of hours, to ensure the safe and effective use of resources to provide quality patient care. Working autonomously, but with support and liaison with the Clinical Site Matron the post holder will ensure the timely action and communication of all site issues ensuring services are maintained.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Management

  • Collate, and be accountable for the accuracy of, capacity and escalation data for internal reporting
  • Play a key role in ensuring escalation of clinical\operational concerns to appropriate key individuals within the clinical Divisions
  • Organise and prioritise own workload within timescales and schedules building in flexibility to deal with unforeseen demands on time and resources
  • Maintain appropriate records and documentation, such as for adverse incidents, and take appropriate corrective action, informing the Clinical Site Matron as necessary.
  • Be proactive in the prevention and management of complaints from both staff and patients and assist in investigation where applicable.
  • Work as a member of the Hospital at Night Team

Site Management

  • Out of hours - provide advice and support to all Trust employees as required by the Clinical Site Matron on site, acting independently in decision making for all issues relating to the management of
    the site – informing the on call manager as necessary
  • Coordinate the Night Nursing staff to cover sickness and unforeseen absence as per Trust policy
  • Support the Clinical Site Matron for the coordination and management of the Trusts emergency
    response to fire, security alerts and serious incidents.
  • To support the Clinical Site Matron to lead and coordinate on any missing patient report as per Trust policy. 

Bed Management

  • Maintain an accurate Trust bed state at all times
  • Work to minimise non clinical transfers and subsequently reduce risk and improve patient experience.
  • Identify and take immediate action to resolve and prevent delays within the patient flow system,
    escalating unresolved issues to appropriate manager.
  • Ensure Discharge Coordinators are providing timely and accurate information regarding bed availability to maintain patient flow within the Trust allowing for sufficient capacity and safe placement of emergency admissions

  • Degree level or equivalent
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Experience of leading at a service level
  • NMC Registered Nurse
Desirable criteria
  • Non medical prescriber

Experience
