Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of the ESNEFT (Colchester site) Stoma Specialist Team.

We are looking for a highly motivated, caring and knowledgeable Stoma Support Nurse to join our team.

The applicant must have at least 12 months experience of practical Stoma Care Nursing. Experience with teaching and educating of staff is essential.

The Band 6 position will be 15 hours per week (not set days) fixed term until August 2025 - working as part of the Stoma Care Team.

You will be required to hold a current UK driving licence, as travelling across North East Essex and Suffolk may be required.

The applicant must be, Confident, Self-motivated, Enthusiastic, and have passion for all aspects of Stoma Care. They must be professional in their approach and be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Main duties of the job

  • To collaborate with and support the CNS-Stoma care nurses to provide a high quality stoma care service in primary and secondary care for people in North East Essex.
  • To provide pre-operative education and practice for patients and their carers
  • To deliver the post-discharge follow up service
  • To ensure regular review of patient equipment (items and stock).
  • To cover for the CNS’s AL in secondary care

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good knowledge of GI tract, urinary and skin anatomy and physiology and disease of these system
  • Good understanding of treatment for bowel and urinary disease which require a stoma
  • Good understanding of bowel and bladder cancer pathway
  • Articulates an understanding of the stoma care support nurse role
