Job overview

We are looking for a nurse with demonstable urological experience to join our friendly team as a Clinical Nurse Specialist to help drive forward our service and influence the positive experience of patients and carers living with prostate cancer.

If successful you will work as an independent practitioner and with members of the multidisciplinary team, provide advice and support to patients, carers, and healthcare professionals on prostate cancer, across both secondary and primary care. You will also help promote safe, competent and evidence- based practice, in line with national objectives and within the clinical governance framework.

Main duties of the job

  • To work with the CNS support, to assist in managing a caseload of patients within the specialty whilst working as part of the multidisciplinary team, delivering individualised and, personalised direct patient care. 
  • Acting as a key worker to the patients and ensuring that their needs are identified and met, including carrying out Holistic Needs Assessments and the associated care plans- ensuring GP’s are aware of all care plans
  •  Run nurse led clinics, including prostate biopsies and PSA follow up clinics Run nurse led clinics designated to managing side effects from treatment including LUTs clinics, healthy bones and hot flushes.
  •  Work within the prostate CNS team, running nurse lead triage service for 2WW
  • Liaise with other disciplines in order to utilise the expertise available to ensure patients with urology are provided with the highest quality care available. Provide cover across the service and within the team as appropriate. Support the development of the role according to patients changing needs and research findings, with the resources available.
  • Maintain accurate records of the clinical service ensuring that confidentiality of information adhered to.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse with NMC pin
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching qualification (ENB 998 or equivalent)
  • Undertaken specialist courses to develop knowledge and skills in cancer care provided both by Macmillan, local university partners, BAUN and EAUN

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of caring for patient with Urological conditions.
  • Significant post-graduate experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrable urology experience.
  • Experience of working autonomously & part of a team
