Here at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust we are seeking an experienced Staff Nurse’s to join our friendly & dynamic team in our Children’s Emergency Department & Paediatric Assessment Unit at our Basildon Hospital site.

Main duties of the job

We are a supportive and encouraging department and you will be part of a solid team of paediatric nurses with different levels of experience. This will provide you with the support and camaraderie to make each day a good one.  We have a number of band 7 senior sisters/ charge nurses working directly within the department as well as a dedicated practice development team which work wholly on enabling you to develop your skills and experiences and facilitate further learning and training.

We receive a wide variety of emergency patients, including trauma and medical/surgical admissions and it is exciting to say that our Children’s Emergency Department provides an independent Paediatric Emergency Nurse Practitioner led service that runs 7 days a week.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RSCN / RN (child)
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant nursing degree
  • MIPS/ENB 998 or equivalent
  • Current APLS/EPLS or willingness to undertake

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Nursing experience in the care of the child and family in an acute paediatric care setting.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience or awareness of child protection issues
  • Experience or awareness of working in an emergency dept/PAU

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent written communication skills - demonstrated throughout application form
  • Basic computer skills (word, emails, excel)
Desirable criteria
  • Trained to administer IV therapy.
  • Trained to access central/long lines.
