Job overview

An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen for a registered  nurse to join the existing fantastic team at Maister Lodge.  

Maister Lodge is an in-patient unit that provides assessment, treatment and care to people with dementia .  Maister Lodge have been shortlisted for the Trusts Annual Awards - Outstanding Care in 2023 and we have won Team of the Year in the past.  

We have a strong clinical model that is based the unmet needs approach to understanding challenging behavior, all patients care is formulated within the MDT, this is then supported by the use of person centered care planning and Positive Behaviour Support Plans.  

You would be joining a strong leadership team of a band 7 nurse, band 6 specialist nurses, band 5 nurses and medications optimisation technician, band 4 nursing associates, healthcare support staff, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Physiotherapy, consultant psychiatrist,  junior medics and a speciality medic.  

As a team we are consistently focused on the provision of quality care which is evidence based and as such actively support staff development through provision of formal and informal training to ensure that our staff are afforded the skills required to effectively and efficiently to support recovery.  

 

Main duties of the job

To plan care for patients e.g. organising appointments, treatments, interventions, care programme approach (CPA) reviews

Responsible for managing and prioritising own workload, balancing the needs of patients and service requirements/competing priorities

To assess the needs of patients and their carers’ based on the analysis of a range of facts or situations. Interventions will be planned on the assessment information and the interpretation of this e.g. Mental Health assessment/risk assessment

To contribute to the assessment and formulation  for the patients

Completing written and electronic documentation

Supporting HCAs with supervision and appraisals

Coordinating shifts, handovers

Administering medications using the Lorenzo EPMA

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • A broad understanding of relevant policy, legislation drivers and their application to clinical and service area, e.g. Mental Capacity Act, Social Inclusion
  • An understanding of relevant clinical practice/standards within identified clinical area
  • Standard IT skills
  • Part III or 13 of NMC live register
Desirable criteria
  • Full understanding of relevant policy, drivers and their application to clinical and service area, e.g. NSF, Social Inclusion
  • Full understanding/application of relevant clinical practice/standards/audit within identified clinical area
  • To be on the live register for mentoring students

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Willingness to undertake and complete preceptorship; facilitating the transition for newly qualified nurse booklet and core competency development programme
  • Appropriate knowledge/experience of working in mental health/learning disability clinical practice areas
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the clinical area at specialist level of care
  • Evidence of specialist practice skills and able to demonstrate the impact of this on practice change/development
