Job overview

Maister Lodge has undergone renovation works meaning that the environment is well suited for patients with dementia.  We can offer excellent learning opportunities, support from the team at Maister and from other parts of the OP services.

At Maister Lodge we are providing high quality acute mental health care to people with dementia at a time in their illness when compassion, care and skill can achieve great benefit for patients and their families. 

Maister Lodge also deliver care to patients at the end of their life and the team take great pride in doing this with excellence.

The applicant will join our existing creative and committed team and we encourage applications from those with a natural flair and personal commitment to working with people who as a result of dementia require high levels of intensive support.

We are looking for staff that are motivated, compassionate and committed to working with older people, delivering personal care, health checks and engaging people in meaningful activity in a rapidly changing and busy working environment.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate would be able to demonstrate person centred values to care and leadership.

You will be overseeing the day to day running of the ward and will also support the Ward Manager in administrative duties.

Your role will include provision of clinical supervision, appraisal, care planning, shift leading, medication administration, audits and preceptorship.

Person specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Full understanding of relevant policy, legislation drivers and their application to clinical and service area, e.g. Mental Capacity Act, Social Inclusion .
  • Full understanding/ application of relevant clinical practice/ standards/ audit within identified clinical area .
  • Basic IT skills .
  • Part III or 13 of NMC live register or equivalent professional registration relevant to the post .
  • Post registration/graduate diploma or equivalent experience in related work area, to demonstrate advanced level of practice
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of project work that has impacted on practice and demonstrates a higher level of communication/planning/change that impacts within own area of work/responsibility .
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Leadership training/qualification/experience.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 18 months post qualifying experience within an acute Mental health setting
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the clinical area at specialist level of care
  • Evidence of development of specialist practice nursing skills and able to demonstrate the impact of this on practice change/development
  • Evidence of promoting/supporting active user/carer involvement/participation
  • Act as Care Programme Approach (CPA) Co-ordinator
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrable experience of working in the specific field where the post is held
  • Development of specialist/advanced level of practice skills and able to demonstrate the impact of this on practice change/development
  • Leadership/management experience which has had a positive impact and created change
  • Ability to effectively Chair meetings

  • Effective inter-personal skills and experience in supervising and mentoring
  • Able to demonstrate effective communication skills.
  • Good time management skills
