The Macmillan Neuro-oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist team based at the Neurosurgery Department at Hull Royal Infirmary and the Queens Oncology Centre at Castle Hill Hospital, is looking for an enthusiastic individual to join the team on a temporary basis as a Macmillan Neuro-oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist.

The service covers a population of 1.6 million across Yorkshire and the Humber, supporting  patients who have Brain and rare Central Nervous System tumours, Pituitary tumours, Skull Base tumours and Spinal tumours.

The Macmillan Neuro-oncology clinical nurse specialists work closely with the consultant Neurosurgeons and Oncologists and other members of the Multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to provide a holistic service for this group.

You will have direct contact with patients and  carers providing advice and ongoing support to this client group,  and  will also liaise with other members of the Neuro-oncology MDT to ensure that patients and carers receive the information and care they require in a timely manner.

The post holder will also be involved in the development of services for Neuro-oncology patients and their carers, alongside the rest of the team.

You must have experience in working with individuals in Neurosurgery, Neurology or Oncology  and possess excellent communication, interpersonal and IT skills.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and pro-active individual who is open to learning and developing new ways of working within an established team. Furthermore, you must have an understanding of the challenges of working with people who have complex health needs.

You will provide support, advice and information to patients and their families who require Neuro-oncology care and treatment from diagnosis onwards.

Working between  Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital sites when required, acting as a core member of the Neuro-oncology MDT, attending the Neuro-oncology MDT meetings and clinics as required, provide face to face and telephone advice and support to patients undergoing Neuro-oncology treatment, and carry out Holistic needs assessments for patients undergoing Neuro-oncology treatment

We work very closely with the wider Neuro-oncology team to provide support and advice for patients who require Neuro-oncology treatment and care from diagnosis onwards.

The work is varied, with opportunity to work in several different environments across both hospital sites and with the opportunity to work closely with other health professionals in the wider Neuro-oncology team, and develop skills in caring for patients undergoing surgery and oncology treatment for tumours of the brain and central nervous system.
