Job overview

We are seeking enthusiastic, caring and motivated individuals to join our team of Registered Nurses to provide dynamic, high-quality family centred nursing care to Children, Young People and Babies.

Do you love the buzz of working in a SSPAU where you work as part of a well co-ordinated medical and nursing team, providing high impact interventions from the minute the children arrive so that they can be treated and discharged on the same day. Do you get a thrill from seeing a very sick child arrive on the ward and a few hours later they are sitting up eating and chattering? And do you also love caring for children having day case surgery?

Or do you prefer caring for the children who have to stay overnight or for several nights because they need more complex care for most general medical and surgical conditions eg respiratory, diabetes, oncology, CAMHS and neurology and level 1 critical care as needed. Children requiring more intensive care are transferred to our tertiary centres for their immediate treatment and then repatriated to us for on-going care until ready for discharge.

Whatever your preference, we would love to hear from you. Whether you are a paediatric registered nurse who is newly registered or you are a Paediatric nurse brimming with experience .

Main duties of the job

*Delivering high quality care and treatment to patients in a timely manner.

*To be fully aware of local policies and procedures and those for the Trust

*To be aware of own training needs and developmental needs within the clinical environment.

*To deliver patient care using the philosophy of individualised patient care.

*To participate in Health Education.

*To report on care given, to other members of staff, communicating changes as they occur.

*To liaise with other health care professionals.

*To be aware of and respect the patient's rights for confidentiality.

*To be conversant with the 'Code of Professional Conduct' in duties.

*To be professionally accountable for all actions during working shift.

*To supervise student/learner nurses and healthcare assistant nurses in the giving of patient care.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse- Child Branch
Desirable criteria
  • mentorship qualification
  • Registered nurse Adult Branch with Child Pathway qualification supported by Evelina Hospital

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous / recent experience of working in an acute NHS care setting (can include student placements within the last 12 months )
Desirable criteria
  • Current experience of working with sick children.
  • Extra related qualification eg ITU, A&E, oncology nursing, health visiting.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Ability to prioritise own workload.
  • Basic understanding of the different needs of children.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of and ability to calculate small drug dosages specific to children.
