Swydd ddisgrifiad a phrif gyfrifoldebau manwl

To lead and manage the clinical team and patient services at ward level. To develop clear systems to ensure the delivery of family centred care which is evidence based and tailored to patient need.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Assume site specific responsibility for the day to day nursing management of Neonatal Unit/Special Care Baby Unit.

In partnership with senior management team ensure clinical governance objectives are met in terms of audit, managing complaints, incidents, risk, patient feedback, benchmarking, and data collection including national audits.

Use effective management and leadership skills in the operational management of the neonatal inpatient service. Manage the ward with responsibility for workforce planning, managing sickness absence, recruitment and selection, professional development and performance review of the team. Responsible for ensuring spending is within ward budget.

Take responsibility for clinical environment ensuring that high standards of cleanliness and infection control are met and that appropriate action is taken.

Act as a role model in clinical practice working within the clinical areas to maintain professional competence and credibility in Neonatal nursing.

Adhere at all times to the NMC professional code of conduct maintaining own professional development and personal development plan.

Contribute to the service through communicating the Divisional and Trust strategies and visibly supporting trust and corporate policies and systems.

Participate in paediatric education and training within the Trust. Act as a resource providing expert paediatric advice to support the continued development of the service.

Develop clinical practice and promote safe, evidence based, quality paediatric care.

Respond to and manage complaints with support from the clinical manager and complaints department. Implement any changes/actions as a result of a complaint.

Background

Every three minutes someone in the UK develops dementia: a progressive and complex condition that can be devastating for the whole family. One in two of us will be affected by dementia in our lifetime – either by caring for someone with the condition, developing it ourselves, or both.

Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nursing charity that is there for the whole family. Our specialist nurses, known as Admiral Nurses, provide free, expert advice, support and understanding to help families care for their loved one. Every day, Admiral Nurses help families up and down the country to have the best life possible, for as long as possible.

Purpose of the job/about the role

Dementia UK has entered into an exciting three-year corporate partnership with a national partner. As a key component of this initiative, we will establish face-to-face Admiral Nurse clinics across the UK. This new team will bring Admiral Nursing to high street locations across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

As part of the national Clinics Programme Team, you will provide in-person biopsychosocial support and advice, sharing your specialist dementia nursing expertise to help families manage the complexities of the condition. Your focus will be on supporting family carers, people affected by dementia, and professionals who require specialist dementia guidance in areas of the UK where Admiral Nurse services are currently unavailable, bringing a much-needed service directly to local communities. Throughout your work, you will consistently promote Admiral Nursing and a family-centred approach to dementia care.

You will receive full support with your continuous professional development from the Admiral Nurse Academy.

As this unique nursing role offers you the opportunity to travel across the country, and will include overnight stays, flexibility is essential. When not delivering face-to-face clinics, you will provide support on our Helpline, working from home.

Admiral Nurse – Delivered Services

Join our Delivered Services team as an Admiral Nurse and bring your specialist dementia nursing expertise to support family carers, people affected by dementia, and professionals who require specialist advice. You’ll be a key member of our team, providing biopsychosocial support through our National Dementia Helpline and Virtual Clinic appointments.

In addition to your core responsibilities, you’ll have the opportunity to lead and support other clinical projects across the charity, benefit from monthly clinical supervision, and participate in a range of learning opportunities to support your ongoing professional development.

As an Admiral Nurse, you’ll be responsible for providing nursing support and expertise, offering practical guidance to colleagues, the general public, those with dementia, and others in supporting family and relationship-centered approaches to dementia care. You’ll also lead and coordinate shifts as required, providing clinical supervision to others and assist with the development, evaluation, audit of the service, carer and supporters in different settings.

To be successful in this position, you’ll need to be an active Registered Nurse on the NMC register with a post-registration qualification or training in dementia care or a relevant subject. You will have significant experience of practicing as an Admiral Nurse or dementia specialist nurse and previously worked with people who have dementia and their family, carer and supporters in different settings.

Strong communication skills are essential, as is a proven track record of providing high standards of clinical leadership and specialist nursing support. You should be adept at providing clinical advice, clinical supervision, and advocating for family carers.
