Job overview
We are looking for a driven, ambitious and autonomous Band 5 Nurse who is committed to delivering exceptional care for patients with long-term neurological conditions on B10 Ward. We accept and fully support newly qualified or experienced nurses.
B10 is a Neuromedical Ward with 15 beds; this includes a Video Telemetry room in which we carry out investigations for patients presenting with seizures. We care for a variety of long-term neurological conditions including MND, epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease alongside other rare acute conditions including Creutzfeldt - Jakob disease, Guillain-Barre Syndrome and Myasthenia Gravis.
B10 Ward boasts a day case Planned Investigation Unit (PIU) in which we administer specialist infusions including IV Immunoglobulin, Tysbari and Ocrelizumab. Alongside these we also care for ward attenders undergoing procedures such as lumbar puncture and scans under GA.
The Trust has undergone a physical transformation with a brand-new hospital built at RSCH which opened in June 2023. We are honoured to be one of the wards in this new building.
Our philosophy is to look after our patients with skill, kindness and compassion and to provide our staff with a strong team support network in which they can achieve developmental milestones and gain a variety of skills and abilities.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will work as part of a team to provide an effective, safe environment of care for individual patients, their relatives and carers.
Previous experience in a neurology speciality is desirable
but not essential, an interest in this speciality is essential.
- Provides effective, safe, evidence based patient care in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Conduct.
- Adheres to NMC code of conduct.
- Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates individualised evidence based patient care.
- Effectively processes admissions & transfers and plans discharges in accordance with UHSx policy and standards.
- Actively participates in promotion of education for patients, their relatives and colleagues with consideration to resources available.
- Ensures provision of all drugs as prescribed in accordance with UHSx policy, including parenteral administration.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Prioritises care and delegates workload and ward activities appropriately to HCA’s and other staff; may be required to take charge of the ward on an ad hoc basis
Effectively and professionally deals with emergency situations
Participates in the supervision, mentorship and development of students and colleagues
Adheres to local and National policies and guidelines
Ensures safe practice with regard to moving and handling, SHARPS, infection control etc
