Patient Safety Training Senior Advisor

The role involves the development, implementation and monitoring of all patient safety training related strategies, policies and procedures. This includes providing effective high quality training to different staff groups, investigating incidents, and carrying out regular informal and formal safety monitoring regimes across the various different work environments used by the Trust

Due to the geographical nature of Trust the post holder will be expected to travel across the county, working away from their base location in the delivery of their duties.

Experience

Considerable experience working within the NHS and in relevant field
Experience of working in acute paediatric environment such as HDU, ITU, A&E. OR Experience with CYP with complex care needs including: Tracheostomy and ventilation Enteral feeding Atypical anatomy Range of Neurodisability and neurodiversity conditions/diagnosis
Proven staff management skills
Current Resuscitation Council (UK) guide-lines
Relevant legislation regarding adult and paediatric healthcare and resuscitation issues
Knowledge of manual handling issues
Understanding of the differences of resuscitation delivery between acute and primary care
Experience of teaching or coaching others
Experience of designing, delivering and developing training courses
Experienced in the use of QI methodologies
Experience negotiating with staff, of all levels and with individuals and groups
Experience of implementing risk assessments and any actions resulting from risk assessments

Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate with all members of the multidisciplinary team
Proven ability to plan and deliver programmes of teaching/training in clinical situations.
Ability to present complex and/or sensitive in-formation in front of an audience and adapt to questions/feedback.

Excellent IT skills with the ability to use and cre-ate tables and spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel
Ability to interpret difficult or technical information into plain English, which a wide range of people can easily understand.
Ability to manage a situation if all the necessary information is not available
Ability to work autonomously
Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
Prior understanding of relevant UK legislation
Understand the importance of listening and asking open questions during investigations

Background

Every three minutes someone in the UK develops dementia: a progressive and complex condition that can be devastating for the whole family. One in two of us will be affected by dementia in our lifetime – either by caring for someone with the condition, developing it ourselves, or both.

Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nursing charity that is there for the whole family. Our specialist nurses, known as Admiral Nurses, provide free, expert advice, support and understanding to help families care for their loved one. Every day, Admiral Nurses help families up and down the country to have the best life possible, for as long as possible.

Purpose of the job/about the role

Dementia UK has entered into an exciting three-year corporate partnership with a national partner. As a key component of this initiative, we will establish face-to-face Admiral Nurse clinics across the UK. This new team will bring Admiral Nursing to high street locations across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

As part of the national Clinics Programme Team, you will provide in-person biopsychosocial support and advice, sharing your specialist dementia nursing expertise to help families manage the complexities of the condition. Your focus will be on supporting family carers, people affected by dementia, and professionals who require specialist dementia guidance in areas of the UK where Admiral Nurse services are currently unavailable, bringing a much-needed service directly to local communities. Throughout your work, you will consistently promote Admiral Nursing and a family-centred approach to dementia care.

You will receive full support with your continuous professional development from the Admiral Nurse Academy.

As this unique nursing role offers you the opportunity to travel across the country, and will include overnight stays, flexibility is essential. When not delivering face-to-face clinics, you will provide support on our Helpline, working from home.

Admiral Nurse – Delivered Services

Join our Delivered Services team as an Admiral Nurse and bring your specialist dementia nursing expertise to support family carers, people affected by dementia, and professionals who require specialist advice. You’ll be a key member of our team, providing biopsychosocial support through our National Dementia Helpline and Virtual Clinic appointments.

In addition to your core responsibilities, you’ll have the opportunity to lead and support other clinical projects across the charity, benefit from monthly clinical supervision, and participate in a range of learning opportunities to support your ongoing professional development.

As an Admiral Nurse, you’ll be responsible for providing nursing support and expertise, offering practical guidance to colleagues, the general public, those with dementia, and others in supporting family and relationship-centered approaches to dementia care. You’ll also lead and coordinate shifts as required, providing clinical supervision to others and assist with the development, evaluation, audit of the service, carer and supporters in different settings.

To be successful in this position, you’ll need to be an active Registered Nurse on the NMC register with a post-registration qualification or training in dementia care or a relevant subject. You will have significant experience of practicing as an Admiral Nurse or dementia specialist nurse and previously worked with people who have dementia and their family, carer and supporters in different settings.

Strong communication skills are essential, as is a proven track record of providing high standards of clinical leadership and specialist nursing support. You should be adept at providing clinical advice, clinical supervision, and advocating for family carers.
