Job overview

The Bed Management service receives bed requests for AMH and MHSOP services between 8 am and 8pm seven days per week.

Bed Managers working the central virtual hub receive requests and identify the most suitable beds, maintaining a dialogue with referrers to facilitate timely bed allocation.

When not working in the central hub Bed Managers focus exclusively on patient flow, working into inpatient ward areas, attending patient meetings and facilitating leaves and discharges.

This post will focus exclusively on patient flow, between the hours of 8am - 4pm, Monday to Friday. Inpatient services have experienced sustained pressures in relation to bed capacity, so it is essential that patient flow is managed as effectively as possible.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking to appoint one enthusiastic, dynamic and well organised individual as bed manager, in an extremely fast paced environment, across our adult and older people's inpatient services.

You must be dedicated to delivering a high standard of care and optimising patient safety, by placing the right patients in the right place at the right time.

You will be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as your ability to work well within a team, although some independent working is anticipated using own initiative and judgement, maintaining effective relationships and personal resilience to manage under pressure and in challenging situations where conflict may arise.

The post holder will need to have good problem solving skills, be creative and innovative in approach, identifying and anticipating any issues that may arise, working closely with colleagues to help find solutions to problems that can arise in the management of beds.

Working for our organisation

The central bed management team operate a Hub and Spoke model with bed managers taking central bed requests and working to facilitate patient flow within local geographical areas.

The bed management service is operational between 8am to 8pm, seven days a week. However, the successful candidate will focus exclusively on patient flow, between the hours of 8am - 4pm, Monday to Friday within the North Yorkshire, York and Selby area, with a focus upon inpatient wards at Foss Park Hospital

The role may involve travelling to and from TEWV hospital sites and therefore the ability to travel across sites is essential and you would be expected to provide cover for bed manager colleagues across each of the localities when needed.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will co-ordinate and collate real time information on current and predicted bed availability and facilitate the effective use of acute hospital and community wide bed capacity.

This role is central to the flow of patients within the Trust. The successful candidate will have a sound clinical background with effective decision making skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

Candidates will be required to present original certificates for qualifications at interview stage.

Due to the nature of the role it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently across the locality and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

Please refer to the attached job description and person specification for further detailed information to ensure that you meet the role criteria before applying.
