With a budget of around £365m, three hospitals and 5,500 staff, North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital-based services to the population of Hartlepool, Stockton on Tees and parts of East Durham and Sedgefield as well as community, therapeutic and screening to a wider population across Durham and Teesside.

The Special Care Baby Unit at North Tees is an 11 cot level 1 unit. We provide care to babies 30 weeks gestation onwards and stabilise and transfer any babies under this gestation or requiring a higher level of care need.
As a staff nurse you will be working closely with babies and their families in delivering care , supporting feeding, monitoring progression and preparing for home . We are working towards UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative accreditation , BLISS accreditation and developing family integrated care and are active in Neonatal Research.
Main duties of the job
As a band 5 staff nurse you will be responsible for assessing babies care needs and planning and implementing the care required using a a safe and evidence based approach. You will work alongside families to plan and evaluate care for their babies offering expertise and experience of premature and sick newborn, teaching families to be able to deliver care where possible.
Working with the team to stabilise sick infants , demonstrating the ability to recognise signs of deterioration and escalate accordingly, providing High dependency on our unit or Intensive Care until transfer to level 3 unit.
Communication with families and the multi disciplinary team, acting as an advocate for babies and there families. You will also be required to liaise with social care and have good documentation of conversations and events.

Monitoring and recording baseline observations
Emergency care of the unwell neonate
Calculating and ensuring adequate Fluid balance
Recognition of deterioration and appropriate escalation
Knowledge of safeguarding and the impact on the child
Safe administration of medications through a variety of routes
Assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care
Close working with families and MDT members to provide high quality care

- NMC Registered
Desirable criteria
- Teaching Qualification
- Qualification in Speciality
- 5 years plus experience
- Current NLS certificate
