An exciting secondment/fixed term opportunity has arisen for a full-time Band 5 Community Registered Nurse to join our dynamic Older Persons Community Mental Health Team based at Cross Lane Hospital in Scarborough - Scarborough MHSOP CMHT.  

Please note: This post is only open to those candidates who already have their NMC registration in place and have successfully completed the preceptorship programme. Please note: Newly qualified applicants or those due to qualify will be recruited via a separate process.

Applicants should have a genuine interest in collaborative working with older adults experiencing functional and/or organic mental health problems including their carers and families. You will help the team to provide wellbeing and recovery focused care for individuals with complex and challenging mental health needs, including dementia, depression, anxiety and psychotic illnesses, within community-based settings.

An exciting opportunity to join a highly experienced multi-disciplinary team in Scarborough working and supporting older people to achieve high quality of life and optimum health.  

As a Community Nurse you will have a genuine interest in collaborative working with older adults experiencing functional and/or organic mental health problems including their carers and families.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone wanting to develop their clinical skills, experience and specialist knowledge in a community-based service/setting.  Skills attained could further support career development and progression within the community, promoting diversification of the candidate's CV and demonstrating flexibility and agility of skills and abilities. 

As a core member of the team, you will be responsible for your own caseload, providing assessments, care co-ordination and delivering intervention in the community with people who have complex needs ranging from mild to moderate level of need to severe and enduring level of need and complexity. You will demonstrate excellent assessment skills, interpersonal, and team working skills and be able to work collaboratively with a range of statutory and third sector agencies.

You will have an enthusiastic approach towards your own personal and professional development. In return, you will receive regular appraisal, clinical, management and caseload supervision and will benefit from the support of an experienced and committed multi-disciplinary leadership team, including the Team Manager and the Advanced Practitioner. For newly qualified staff considering the role you will be supported with preceptorship development and other learning  opportunities to meet your individual needs.

Due to the nature of the role it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently across the locality. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

Qualifications

  • Current professional registration with Nursing & Midwifery Council RNMH or RNLD
  • To be recognised practice assessor / mentor or willingness to work towards in an agreed timescale
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • Trained Clinical Supervisor (within 6 month probationary period)

Experience

  • Working with people with mental ill health / learning disabilities
  • Working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers
  • Working in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Working in partnership with other agencies

Knowledge

  • Evidence based knowledge of best practice in caring for patients in the designated field
  • Understanding of relevant legislation (e.g. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act)
  • Understanding of Safeguarding and its application in practice
  • Clinical Risk Assessment and Management and its application in practice
  • Clinical Governance and its application in practice
  • Confident working knowledge of clinical medicines management, including administration of injections
