Job overview
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, well-motivated, forward-thinking Community Associate Practitioner/Trainee to work as part of our team - We work with young people with moderate to severe mental health problems living in the Redcar area.
We are an experienced team who will support the successful applicant to develop their skills within this area of practice.
The successful individual will need a Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care and Literacy and Numeracy Level 2 or equivalent to be recruited into the position on Band 4. If the successful applicant has not got the Foundation Degree, they will be appointed on a temporary trainee contract on Agenda for Change Band 3. Applicants applying to be trainees will need to have the NVQ/Diploma in Health and Social Care 3 and literacy and numeracy level 2.
The Associate Practitioner training programme will last 2 years during which time individuals will be expected to complete the Foundation Degree in Health & Social Care and meet the required competencies of the role.
Following successful completion of the training programme and the two years’ experience the individual will transfer to Agenda for Change Band 4.
Main duties of the job
The team is multi-disciplinary and provides mental health assessments, treatment and interventions for young people suffering from moderate to severe complex emotional, behavioural and psychological issues resulting in mental health problems.
Experience of working clinically within Mental Health and Neurodevelopmental needs is essential.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Associate Practitioners will manage their own caseload and offer interventions to individuals specific to their needs. They will also be involved with young people on the Neuro assessment pathway this will involve regular contact to those on pathway and ensuring that relevant information is gathered which is fed into the DDM.
The role can be demanding but also highly rewarding so you will need to be someone who is motivated, resilient and passionate about working with this client group.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care or NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care and willingness to work towards achieving the Foundation Degree. Qualification must be achieved within agreed timescale
- Key skills in literacy, numeracy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous experience of working with people with mental/social health needs or learning disabilities.
- Previous experience as a Band 2/3 HCA or equivalent in a care environment
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in the community mental health team
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Awareness of legal frameworks including Mental Health legislation, The Care Act 2014
- Evidence based knowledge of best practice in caring for adults with enduring/ complex mental health difficulties
- Willing to undertake learning in specific areas which are relevant to the role e.g. challenging behaviour, personality disorders, psychosis.
