Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for health care assistants to join our team in Malton, North Yorkshire. Springwood Unit is a 14 bedded ward for patients living with dementia who also have additional frailties, vulnerabilities and behaviours that challenge. Our patients are transferred to us from Trust assessment and treatment wards in North Yorkshire where it has been identified that they require a longer period of treatment in hospital or may have had failed placements in care home environments. The aim of the ward is to continue assessing patients, reviewing and updating treatment plans, our focus is around positive behaviour support and developing support plans that can then follow patients through discharge into their new homes.

Main duties of the job
Working within a person centered approach, you will be part of the multi- disciplinary team assessing and identifying patient care needs, you will need excellent communication skills and be able to form therapeutic relationships with people living with dementia. You must be able to show empathy, compassion, understanding and patience. The post hours will comprise of long days and nights.
The successful candidate must have completed the Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 2 or equivalent. Candidates must also have Literacy and Numeracy level 2 or equivalent and must complete the Trust Healthcare Assistant competencies within their probationary period (first 6 months in role).
The successful candidates who do not have the required qualifications will be expected to enrol on the Healthcare Assistant Framework which will include the acquisition of the level 3 Diploma Health and Social Care, level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy or equivalent and achievement of competencies. You will have a maximum of 2 years to complete this.

- Diploma in Health and Social Care level 2 must be achieved within 2 years of commencement in post for Trainee
