HMP Hull are looking for a Mental Health Nurse to provide mental health care to patients for the Wellbeing Unit.
In partnership with the Prison Service, we provide an enhanced level of care to those residents at HMP Hull and the wider male population within the secure estate in Yorkshire and Humber.
The Wellbeing Unit:
- offer residents with capacity urgent assessment and treatment, intervention and medication to stabilise their MH and promote recovery
- establish pathways with regional secure units to ensuring safe transfer and remission to and from secure services when appropriate.
Main duties of the job
You will be a Registered Mental Health Nurse.
A £3,000 Trust welcome bonus will be applied to this post. This incentive is paid as follows; £1,500 upon joining the Trust, £750 after year 1 and £750 after year 2.
This role will be responsible for assessment and caseload management of those referred onto Wellbeing Unit. You will carry out comprehensive assessments, confidently communicating treatment options and initiating supportive care plans, and providing evidence-based interventions alongside the wider multi-disciplinary team

Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (TEWV), provide mental health and learning disability services in partnership with Rethink Mental Illness and Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust (HTFT) in 2 prisons in the East Riding of Yorkshire. As part of the new Mental Health contract awarded to TEWV Health & Justice Services in 2022, we are expanding the service provision across HMP Hull and HMP Humber. HMP Hull is a Category B prison and the reception prison for the East Riding area. The establishment serves all courts in the region and accepts prisoners on remand or sentenced by the courts. The predominant population is made up of remand prisoners in the early days of custody whilst engaging in the court processes.

Qualification
Essential criteria
- RNMH,/RNLD or registered practitioner, current professional registration with NMC or relevant professional body
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
- MIP, FLIP, ENB 998 Teaching & Assessing in Clinical Practice or City & Guilds 730 Teaching in Adult Education (within agreed timescales)
- Clinical Supervisor (within agreed timescales)
- 18 months post qualifying experience including sign off of appropriate preceptorship or competency framework.
- Recognised sign-off mentor or must be achieved within agreed timescale.
- Qualified practitioner in e.g. CBT, DBT, PSI, dual diagnosis etc. (within agreed timescale).
- Non-medical Prescriber (within agreed timescale.)
- Key skills in literacy, numeracy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
- Leadership or management qualification
- Post-graduate qualification in a relevant area
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience working with people with mental ill health in a community setting.
- A good understanding of the Offender Health pathway.
- Working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers.
Skills
Essential criteria
- Communicate complex and sensitive information effectively to patients, carers/families and all members of the multidisciplinary team
- Provide leadership and monitor, co-ordinate and prioritise the activities of a team.
- Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and undertake care co-ordinator responsibilities
