Job overview

Come and join the Harrogate Child and Adolescent Mental Health Team, we are a dynamic and motivated multi-disciplinary team that specialise in providing interventions and support for children and young people in the Harrogate District.

You will be enthusiastic and highly motivated with experience in the delivery of high-quality planned care.  You will be a valued member of the team and will develop excellent working relationships with our team and partners.

You can expect regular supervision and support from the collective leadership.

Nursing applicants should already hold NMC registration and have successfully completed their preceptorship programme. Please note: Newly qualified Nurses or those due to qualify will be recruited via a separate process.

We sadly cannot accept CWPs for this role.

Main duties of the job

As a member of the team you will provide assessment and treatment to children and young people who present with mental health issues, with an emphasis on formulation and psychologically informed brief interventions. 

You must be willing to work collaboratively with children and young people as well as their carers and families .

You will need to have some experience of working with children, young people and families.

You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You are required to have the ability and experience to manage complex cases in partnership with other agencies. In addition you will further develop skills in psychological assessments, psychosocial interventions and care management.

There is an expectation of commitment to the development of high quality care, and to engage in quality improvement activities. You will be supported with regular management and clinical supervision.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current professional registration with an approved body
  • Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to post
  • For registered nurses: MIP, FLIP, ENB 998 Teaching & Assessing in Clinical Practice or City & Guilds 730 Teaching in Adult Education or willingness to work towards. Qualification must be achieved within agreed timescale.
  • Trained Clinical Supervisor (within agreed timescale).
  • Key skills in literacy, numeracy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
  • Post-graduate qualification in a relevant area

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Working with children and young people with mental ill-health issues
Desirable criteria
  • Working in a person centred therapeutic organisation
  • Working in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers
  • Working in partnership with other agencies

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidenced based knowledge of best practice in caring for patients in the designated field.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation (e.g. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act).
  • Care Programme Approach and its application in practice.
  • Understanding of Safeguarding and its application in practice
  • Clinical Risk Assessment and Management and its application in practice
  • Clinical Governance and Clinical Supervision
  • Research and development methodology
  • Awareness of psychological models of care and treatment

Skills

  • Communicate complex and sensitive information effectively to patients, carers/families and all members of the multidisciplinary team.
