Be part of something amazing! Dorset Integrated Urgent Care Services (DIUCS) provides a streamlined urgent care pathway across the county, to help patients access the advice or treatment they need more quickly and the best use of local NHS resources.
Delivered through an innovative and collaborative approach with primary care and Dorset’s NHS Foundation Trusts, the service brings together NHS 111, a new Clinical Assessment and Treatment Service, a single point of access for professionals, urgent care treatment centres and minor injuries units. We are leading the way and establishing new and joined up ways of working right across the Dorset System and we need more clinicians to help us achieve our vision.
Joining us as a Clinical Assessment & Treatment Service - Clinical Team Leader (Band 6) will provide you with a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference by working for an organisation dedicated to delivering safe, responsive and patient focused service to people requiring healthcare advice and assistance. The Clinical Assessment and Treatment Service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Employment in this post requires an Enhanced/Standard Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service are able to present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.
Main duties of the job
You must currently be registered with either the NMC (Nurse) or HCPC (Paramedic) and meet the personal specification requirements for this role.
You will be responsible for leading a team of clinicians, providing expert management skills to support to them whilst also ensuring a consistently safe, responsive and patient-focused service to those requiring assistance from the Integrated Urgent Care Service. You will work with other healthcare professionals to ensure the patient receives the most appropriate care.
From the Dorset St Leonard’s Hub you will be required to safely manage the Clinical callback back and as required perform telephone assessments for members of the public, manage calls from Healthcare Professionals and support IUCS Health Advisors.
The successful candidate will be expected to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service, with shift patterns including a mix of days, nights, weekends and Bank Holidays.

Person specification
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND TRAINING
Essential criteria
- Registered practitioner to degree / diploma level supplemented by diploma level specialist training and / or short courses or demonstrable extensive experience in the relevant specialty
- Membership of the relevant Professional Body
- Learning and Assessing in Practice Qualification or equivalent practice assessors training
- Evidence of recent professional development in an up to date portfolio
- Knowledge and understanding of Trust Strategy relevant to role
JOB SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Experience at Practitioner Band 5 level
- Knowledge and understanding of legislation relevant to Practice
- Ability to evaluate care leading to improvement in quality standards an service improvement
- Ability to teach staff new to the clinical area, less experienced staff, students and members of the multi-disciplinary team
- Able to demonstrate highly developed physical skills where accuracy is important such as in the manipulation of fine tools and materials for patient interventions.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of managing change
- Recent previous experience within a comparable role
- Experience of multi-disciplinary working
- Previous line management experience
PERSONAL QUALITIES/ATTRIBUTES
Essential criteria
- Able to communicate effectively at different levels of the organisation in both verbal and written form for example with staff, patients / service users, visitors or external organisations in the exchange of complex,sensitive or contentious information, which will require the use of negotiating and/or persuasive skills.
- Able to overcome barriers to understanding where there are physical or mental disabilities.
- Able to analyse and assess sometimes challenging and complex situations requiring interpretation of potentially conflicting situations with the ability to make judgements on appropriate courses of action, requiring consideration of a range of options and the implications of each .
- Experience of planning and organising complex activities such as organising own time and that of junior staff and learners, planning off duty rota and undertaking discharge planning involving co-ordination with other agencies.
- Evidence of demonstrating the Trust’s values and behaviours.
- Evidence of complex communication skills both verbal and written to deal with difficult situations
- Ability to use own initiative within sphere of authority
- Demonstrated ability at using tact & diplomacy
- Demonstrable leadership qualities and the ability to perform as a role model
- Willingness to advance own clinical knowledge, skill and competence based on current evidence

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have regular contact with vulnerable people and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
