Mental Healthcare Support Worker (MHCSW)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Band 3 Mental Healthcare Support Workers (MHCSW)) to join our happy and cohesive Emergency Department team as we start a multi million transformation and expansion.

Have you got recent experience as a MHCSW working in both an acute setting and in mental health services, and are enthusiastic, motivated, keen learner, innovative and forward thinking? If so, we would like to hear from you.

We are a busy working environment with a high turnover of patients which sees and treats children and adults with a range of conditions including physical injuries and emergencies and mental health conditions. Clinical working areas include Majors, Minors, EDAU and Resus. We have a dedicated clinical practice educator team to ensure robust support and education as you begin your new journey, within this new and exciting role within the department.

We have  full time vacancies for motivated Mental Healthcare Support Workers to join the Emergency Department Team. If you enjoy working in a busy demanding environment and are able to work on your own initiative, then this may be the job for you. This job involves internal rotation for all ED staff and we work 12.5 hour shifts (1 hour break), day and night.

  • Completion of Care Certificate
  • Conflict resolution training and Management of Violence and Aggression Training
  • Basic understanding of the Recovery Model. Issues of dignity and privacy.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Previous experience of working in both healthcare and mental health services
  • Have a basic understanding of the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act
  • A keen interest in a wide range of people & personalities.
  • Able to think quickly and deal with situations in a calm and sensible manner
  • The desire and commitment to undertake studies as required to meet service delivery requirements.
  • Compassionate - Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, carers, and relatives remaining sensitive and empathetic.
