Job overview
This is an opportunity to lead the transformation of antenatal inpatient and induction of labour services in UHD. The post is fixed term for 12 months covering maternity leave.

Main duties of the job
- Line management of MSW's and band 5 and 6 midwives.
- Day to day running of the induction of labour service and antenatal inpatients.
- Covering a 24/7 shift pattern which will include commitment to the board holding rota and on call board holding rota.
- Involvement with the Head of Midwifery and matron team in maternity assurance actions and reporting, patient experience, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Clinical care to patients admitted to the induction and antenatal ward.

There is a planned move for this service anticipated on 31/3/25, when this role and base of work will relocate to RBH BEACH. Upon relocation of the role/service, excess mileage allowance / reimbursement will not apply, and any travel between the postholder’s home and work base will be classified as a commute. Any other changes unrelated to this, will be handled in line with Trust/National terms and conditions.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- This key position has a strong focus on patient safety and compassionate care for women and birthing people facing uncertainty in their pregnancy and induction of labour journey. The successful midwife will lead the existing team through a once in a career opportunity of moving to a brand new, purpose built maternity unit.
- This is a fantastic opportunity to continue building on the success of the team in transforming the experience of induction of labour and care for women and birthing people experiencing complications of pregnancy.
- You will work closely with Maternity Triage, Antenatal Clinic, Labour Ward and the multi-professional obstetric team. This post also offers an opportunity to develop leadership skills.
- We are looking for a midwife with a passion for high risk antenatal care and a desire to support a team through change

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered midwife with NMC registration
- Completed preceptorship programme
Desirable criteria
- Leadership or management qualification
- Examination of the newborn
Experience
Essential criteria
- Band 6 clinical experience. Credible clinical background.
- Experience in leadership/team leadership role.
- Experience in specific area relevant to role.
- Working with patients with complex needs.
Desirable criteria
- Risk management experience.
- Audit experince.
Technical competencies
Essential criteria
- Practice supervisor
- Up to date with all mandatory training requirements.
- Understanding of leadership styles and impact on patient care.
- Able to use IT packages such as spreadsheets, power points, virtual meetings.
Desirable criteria
- Practice assessor
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Evidence of national guidance pertaining to antenatal care and induction of labour.
- Knowledge of local reporting pathways and assurance.
Other
Essential criteria
- Able to work shifts over a 7 day week.
- Confident and competent in labour care.
