Job overview

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic sexual health nurse to join our small, friendly and supportive team. 

You will work as part of the integrated sexual health team to provide a comprehensive sexual health service to our local population.  To provide screening, advice, information, diagnosis and treatment to clients at risk of, or having acquired, a sexually transmitted infection. 

The Sexual Health team are a small multi-disciplinary team based at Castle Circus Health Centre. 

Our aim is to provide sexual health services that support healthy relationships and sexual well-being in Torbay and South Devon in a caring and non-judgemental way.

 


 

 

Main duties of the job

  • To undertake independent consultations as an autonomous practitioner in assessing and evaluating clients’ individual contraceptive and sexual health needs
  • Provides a clinical advisory service for health professionals and patients, e.g. health advisor line
     Ensure confidentiality is maintained in accordance with statutory requirements such as Data Protection Act and the NHS legislation (Sexually Transmitted Disease At all times work closely with other members of the clinical team, referring onto doctors or psychology services as appropriate Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills
  • To liaise with other Health advisor in GUM and exchange relevant information, in order to facilitate partner notification
  • To work within the SSHA guidelines i.e. Code of Ethics, Code of Conduct guidelines for good practice and partner notification policy
  • To develop and maintain links with related health, social and education services and liaise as appropriate with statutory and voluntary bodies
  • Liaises where necessary with outside agencies
  • Communicates clearly and empathetically when delivering sensitive health information to patients
  • Works to enhance and maintain a team approach within the service
  • Works with other sexual health team members with clinical presentations when required

  • Registered Nurse
  • Post registration training/qualification in sexual health.GU/SSHA or equivalent
  • Working knowledge and experience of all methods of contraception
  • Working knowledge of confidentiality and legal issues relating to sexual health and safeguarding
  • Specific skills - experience of working in a sexual health related area
Desirable criteria
