Job overview

We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic individuals who have at least 12 months full time or the equivalent hours of experience on an acute ward, who are looking for their next challenge.

As a Registered Nurse on the Intensive Care Unit, you will be invited to work within the integrated multidisciplinary team. In return the ICU will offer a commitment to your professional development by supporting comprehensive induction and orientation training, this will include a bespoke in-house critical care training programme that will help guide and develop you to become a skilled critical care nurse.

 

You will participate in the assessment and planning of the care needs to the critically ill patient and their relatives, including the development, implementation, and evaluation of care.

Main duties of the job

 As a nurse on the ICU, you will be:

 

      Responsible for the care of critically ill patients and their families. 

      Recognise and treat patients as individuals.  

      Administer medications and treatment within local/national guidelines.

      Maintain Trust/NMC documentation. 

      Demonstrate ability to meet our trust values.

      Have appropriate communication skills across the multi-functioning disciplinary team.

      Ensure patients receive compassionate care and maintain dignity.

      To act as a role model for junior staff.

Working for our organisation

The ICU @ Torbay Hospital is a 14 bedded mixed unit caring for patients who require ICU (level 3) and HDU (level 2) care.

 

The ICU team works in a multidisciplinary patient centred way to ensure a high standard of patient care for both ICU and HDU patients and their families. There is a strong ethos of education and development with a focus on individual staff developing their skills and contributing to innovation in care.

Qualifications and training

Essential criteria
  • NMC Registered General Nurse.
  • Equivalent to 12 months full time, recent experience in an Acute ward setting.
Desirable criteria
  • ENB 100/124 or equivalent Degree in Nursing.

Knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Intensive Care nursing.
  • Able to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care of the acutely ill patient.
  • Able to adhere to Trust guidelines and protocols.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous ICU/HDU experience.
  • Interest in ICU/HDU nursing.
