Job overview

We have a fantastic multi-disciplinary team approach to patient care and always strive to ensure the patient has the best experience possible whilst with us, and are looking for a caring and compassionate person who is able to work within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver a high standard of individualized nursing care to our patients. 

You will need excellent communication skills, and be able to work independently, prioritizing your workload to ensure the best outcomes for patients. 

You will ensure that your own actions support the care, protection and well-being of individuals, and ensure their privacy and dignity at all times. 

We have full-time and part-time roles available.

Main duties of the job

To deliver high quality care to the housebound patients of Torquay and work as part of multi-disciplinary team and in partnership with primary care and secondary care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • An ability to effectively communicate routine information to patients/carers where co-operation is required and where there may be barriers to understanding
  • Assisting trained nurses in delivering a high standard of holistic nursing care to patients in the home environment, within the dimensions of the post
  • Implementing delegated, planned and appropriate aspects of nursing and social care unsupervised and being responsible for informing the Community Nurse Team Leader/Nurse in charge of observations relating to patient care

Ability to travel efficiently around the Bay is important in order to carry out your duties (e.g. Full driving licence and vehicle).

Qualifications and training

Essential criteria
  • NVQ level 2 with evidence of working towards level 3
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ level 3 in Health

Knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Basic IT skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain accurate written records
Desirable criteria
  • Broad range of simple nursing procedures eg. Venepuncture, BP monitoring, basic wound care.

Specific Skills

Essential criteria
  • The ability to liaise efficiently and effectively with patients/carers, a wide range of health and social care workers GP’s and formal and voluntary care providers within the primary care setting
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working within the primary care setting

Requirements due to work environment/conditions

Essential criteria
  • The ability to work independently in a potentially unpredictable and occasionally highly unpleasant working environment; to include body fluids and working in extreme weather conditions
  • The ability to be flexible, according to patient and workload requirements
