Senior Moving and Handling Facilitator

An exciting  opportunity has arisen for a healthcare registrant NMC/HCPC to join the Department of Professional Health Care Education, to help improve moving and handling practice across our Trust.

We are looking for a pro-active and adaptable individual with excellent communication skills and experience of delivering specialised training, advice and support relating to the moving and handling of people and objects.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as Priority and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

To Deputise/support for the moving and handling lead in planning, delivering, and evaluating moving and handling training programmes Trust wide. Including departmental bespoke programmes as required supporting effective management practice and increasing workforce productivity. Facilitating the Trust in achieving its Health and Safety strategy. 

 To actively maintain a professional moving and handling advisory service across the Trust and provide specialist advice in relation to moving and handling, in the absence of the MH lead for all clinical and non-clinical staffReporting back to the MH lead as appropriate.   

 To actively promote a healthy workplace by educating staff and implementing change to minimise the risk of injury from Manual Handling of loads and people, static postures and repetitive activities. 

 To advise managers and staff Trust wide on the implementation and maintenance of a safer handling policy ensuring we are working within the framework of the national back exchange and meeting legislative requirements reporting back to Moving and Handling lead as appropriate. 

 Work as a senior part of the moving and handling team in providing specialist advice in relation to bariatric patients, including purchase of equipment, liaising with appropriate teams e.g. Tissue viability, infection control.

·       To deputise/support the Moving and Handling Lead   providing expert/specialist advice to ensure continuity of service across the organisation, on the implementation and maintenance of safer handling policies and practice.

·       To deputise/support for the moving and handling lead working autonomously   in the absence of the moving and handling lead, managing the manual handling team and co-ordinate activities in the promotion of a healthy workplace by educating staff and implementing change to minimise the risk of injury from manual handling tasks.

·       To Deliver key priority education and training as part of the wider team with the Multi trainers as required e.g. to support Trust corporate induction.

·       Must be flexible to the needs of the Department of Professional Healthcare Education and the organisation, be able to adapt to change in educational requirements. Including increased activity or change of skill delivery. 

·       Will be required to travel between training centres and main hospital site as well as travel to off site areas.

Qualifications

Meini prawf hanfodol
  • Professional Registration e.g. RN (Registered Nurse), HCPC/ AHP (Registered allied Health professional e.g. (OT/Physio)
  • Completed an accredited Train the Trainers course in moving and handling or equivalent.
  • Degree or equivalent proven evidenced post-registration academic education
  • Proven evidence of ongoing continuing professional Healthcare Education
  • Recognised Teaching Qualification E.g. Cert Ed or equivalent or willing to work towards

  • Meet the qualifications from the national back exchange framework.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Minimum 2 years working in a health care setting as a registered professional e.g. Registered Nurse/ Registered Allied Health Professional
  • Extensive proven knowledge and demonstrable experience in delivering people handling and inanimate load handling training and advice in a care setting.
  • Extensive proven knowledge of learning theories, training cycles and educational models
  • Proven evidence of Leadership skills including the ability to work automatously in the moving and handling field of clinical practice.

  • Recent acute hospital demonstrable experience with clinical moving and handling experience.

Aptitude and Abilities

  • Enhanced interpersonal skills to handle group facilitation, 1:1 coaching.
  • Highly developed communication skills, including the ability to address complex and sensitive issues in an appropriate manner.
  • Extensive proven knowledge in a range of presentation skills
  • Must be able to move between training sites and hospital sites including disparate locations
  • Must be flexible to accommodate last minute change and requirements to training or support complex patient needs
