Job overview

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated, dynamic nurse who can demonstrate commitment to the provision of high-quality person-centred care.

You will work as a band 5 staff nurse on Teign  Ward, a medical/rehabilitation  ward for  predominantly older people. You will be a vital part of a multi-disciplinary team providing holistic care and discharge planning for your patients.

Many of your patients will have some degree of dementia, and you will strive to plan and provide person centred care that enhances their stay on the ward.

You will possess effective communication skills to enable you to work within the multi disciplinary team. The post offers the opportunity for personal and professional development  and you will be supported with continuing Professional development with in house training and support 

 

Main duties of the job

  • Provide direct nursing care to a caseload of patients during you shift , ensuring that high standards of care are maintained and provide supervision to junior staff and students on the ward
  • To work as a registered nurse within a team responsible to the team leader / shift coordinator caring for patients and their carer’s
  • To fully utilise the learning opportunities available. You will gain an understanding of the physiological, psycho-social, spiritual and cultural needs of the patients and their carer’s and to develop a broad spectrum of clinical proficiency to deliver nursing care
  • To promote a safe clinical environment for all patients, their carer’s, visitors and staff
  • To comply with the Trust’s values and expected behaviours

Teign ward provides  cares for patients with complex needs.

You will work closely with therapists and discharge co-ordinators as well as doctors and nursing staff.

You will gain good knowledge of your patients and their needs, and use your information to inform their recovery and discharge.

You will work with patients who have a diagnosis of dementia and will have an interest in improving their stay and will be keen to innovate strategies which may enhance this.

You will work with a supportive team and there will be training opportunities to enhance your career.
