Job overview
The Breast Unit is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Specialist Nurse to work within the Breast Unit at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton which will include working at the Royal Derby Hospital and Queens Hospital Burton.
We are a progressive forward thinking department with a positive approach at meeting and delivering the current challenges of the NHS. The Breast Care Nurse team work alongside the Consultant Radiologists, Consultant Breast Surgeons, Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners, Assistants and A&C Staff. The Breast Unit provides symptomatic clinics and a screening service as part of the NBSS (National Breast Screening Service).
Main duties of the job
Provide specialist nursing advice to the multi-professional team, taking into account all aspects of Clinical Governance promote and develop the use of evidence-based practice to improve the outcomes of patient care.
Where required maintain a caseload of patients under the direction of the lead Specialist Nurse.
Facilitate, develop and deliver individual programmes of care and care packages, where necessary, providing specialist information and support to patients, their relatives and other members of the caring team to ensure continuity of a high standard of care.
Provide supervision of the delivery of care by junior staff, responding to changing clinical situations, whilst providing the necessary advice and support to maintain high standards of patient care.
Act as a role model at all times and ensures that all team members and others visiting the area give a high priority to policies and procedures relating to infection control in order to maintain a safe clinical environment for everyone.
Provide guidance and support to junior members of staff and comply with the NMC standards for mentors.
