Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for individuals to join our friendly and professional team within the Operating Theatre Department as a Theatre Support Worker. We cover a number of different specialities including General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Gynae and Obstetrics, ENT, maxillofacial, Breast, Urology and Ophthalmic.

You will have, or be willing to work towards, completion of the Care Certificate & also must complete within an 18 month period, QCF Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care. This training, if required, will enable you to assist with the preparation and cleanliness of the theatre environment for both surgery and anaesthetics, providing care to the patients throughout their journey in the operating theatre and enable you to support staff at all levels.

Good communication skills are essential.

Candidates must possess GCSE Maths and English at Grades A to C or 4-9 OR Functional Skills Level 2 in both Maths and English. You must be able to present original certificates for these if you are selected for interview.

Main duties of the job

As part of the multidisciplinary team within the Operating Department the post holder will play a vital role in the day to day operation and smooth running of the department. They will accomplish this with the provision of the highest possible standards of individualised patient care, housekeeping, portering and circulating duties. As part of their training package all post holders will be required to complete the QCF Level 2 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support which will enable them to meet the nationally recognised standards of competence for support workers.

The post you are applying for comes under The Protection of Children’s Act 1999, and The Care Standards Act 2000. In accordance with this legislation, successful candidates will be subject to a check by the Disclosure and Barring Service to ascertain their suitability to work with children and/or vulnerable adults.

Education and Training

Essential criteria
  • Has Maths and English at GCSE Grades A to C, 4 to 9 or Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English
  • Has / or must to work towards & complete, within a 18 month period of registration with awarding body, QCF Level 2 Diploma in Health & Social Care
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude towards training and development Possess evidence of recent personal development.
  • Has or must complete the Care Certificate within 12 weeks of post start date

  • Have an understanding of the QCF process or previous experience of the NVQ process
