Specialist Mental Health Practitioner

We have an exciting opportunity to invite candidates to apply for the role of Specialist Mental Health Practitioner within our growing team here at Royal Primary Care.  You will be based across 2 sectors 2 days a week each. (RPC Grangewood and RPC Heanor).

  • 1 x 33 hours Specialist Mental Health Practitioner

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

  • A Specialist Mental Health Practitioner at Royal Primary Care will be an experienced, registered Mental Health Nurse.
  • A qualification in non-Medical prescribing is desirable but not essential.
  • Will provide cover for the practice’s patients who have stress, emotional problems, anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions that present in primary care.
  • Assess patients with new presentation of psychiatric or psychological symptoms or review ongoing problems.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver safe and high quality care.
  • Carries out clinical nursing practice at an advanced level using expert clinical skills, critical judgements and knowledge to deliver appropriate and safe care.
  • Delivery of care in line with NSF, NICE guidelines and evidence based care.
  • Triage and treat patients performing specialist assessment of their needs and make referrals as necessary to other members of primary and secondary mental health care teams as appropriate.
  • Co-ordinate the planning and delivery of care ensuring patients and carers/relatives are involved.
  • Prescribing and reviewing medication that is appropriate to patient needs and in accordance with the latest evidence based practice, national and practice protocols and within the scope of qualified practice.

Qualifications & Training

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMHN
  • Evidence of continuing professional development at degree level or above

  • Non-medical prescribing qualification

Experience

  • Demonstrate 2 years post qualification experience in the delivery of complex mental health care
  • Extensive experience of first line assessments including the assessment of risk
  • Experience providing short term evidence-based interventions e.g. CBT, Brief Solution Focused Therapy, motivational interviewing

  • Experience of working in ward & community / crisis settings

Professional/Managerial/Specialist knowledge

  • Member of the Nursing & Midwifery Council
  • Broad understanding of national policy and its implementation locally
  • Sound understanding of NICE guidelines relating to the treatment of anxiety and depression
  • Experience of using psychological treatments e.g. CBT, DBT
  • A good understanding of the Mental Health Act and other associated legislation
  • A sound understanding of other community facilities and services that may be of help to people with mental health problems
  • Ability to work within a team philosophy in keeping with primary care principles and the wider trust
  • Sound clinical ability to engage service users and carers
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of agencies
  • Ability to present and share information succinctly to colleagues and other professionals

  • Certificate level qualification in CBT
  • Qualification in Brief Solution Focused Therapy
  • Sound understanding of the requirements of primary care
  • A good understanding of the ‘Stepped Care Model’
