Chemotherapy Clinical Nurse Specialist

We are seeking a Chemotherapy trained CNS for an exciting 1 year secondment opportunity, to join the existing team and work in the state of the art NGS Macmillan Unit. The job purpose is:
- To safely deliver systemic anti-cancer treatments in line with national and local guidance.
- To provide specialist clinical practice within a defined clinical area/caseload in a patient centred, clinical and effective way, in line with Trust policies, procedures and national guidelines.
- Working independently with support/guidance from multi-disciplinary team (MDT) as required including triage of
referrals and ensuring chemotherapy pathway is coordinated. - Continuing responsibility for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of
programmes of care and the setting of standards of care. - To work collaboratively, actively, supporting and liaising with other health, social professionals and other agencies across
primary, secondary and tertiary care as appropriate. - Provide expert advice, support and education within specialist area of practice to patients, significant others and colleagues within the health care team.
- Deliver nurse led counselling and deliver a nurse led service within the chemotherapy department, assessing patient
holistically and making clinical decisions on fitness for treatment within nurse led unit. - In absence of Lead Chemotherapy CNS will deputise for the day to day operational running of the chemotherapy unit and wider NGS unit.

- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care and treatment using specialist clinical knowledge and skills
- Undertake clinical assessment, treatment decision and deliver care within clearly defined policies and protocol
- Use advanced communication skills delivering complex, sensitive, significant or contentious information to patients and carers
- Ensure effective discharge planning as appropriate
- Undertake as appropriate clinical procedures, undertaking written patient consent as per Trust policy
- Places quality at the heart of practice by delivering evidence based individualised care, through holistic needs assessment
- Keeps up-to-date with current trends within the speciality ensuring evidence based practice
- A non-medical prescriber
- Provide support/guidance in area of expertise and be a role model to nursing staff
- Responsible for liaising and communicating relevant information to and from other members of the multi-disciplinary team, as necessary
- Take a lead role in the co-ordination of the patient pathway and ensure the patient is kept informed
- Receive supervision of clinical care and outcomes
- Produce patient information leaflets to support advice given
- Educate patients and their carers
- Keep accurate and contemporaneous records

- - 1st level degree or equivalent experience
- - Speciality related course at degree level
- - Mentor / assessor course
- - Completed UKONS SACT passport

- - Advanced communication course
- - Sage and Thyme course
Experience

- - Significant (post registration) experience with two years or more in the specialist area
