Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a Matron within the Division of Acute Medicine. The successful applicant will be an experienced registered nurse with a positive leadership style to support the front door pathway covering Queens Hospital Burton Emergency Department, Acute Medical Unit, Short stay Unit, Medical same day Emergency Care, and community Minor Injury Units at Lichfield and Tamworth.

You will be working with a dedicated and friendly team within acute medicine.

You will have:

  • good communication and interpersonal skills who can successfully engage with patients, staff, and work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Clear decision-making capabilities.
  • be a vocal advocate for the patient and be passionate and highly motivated in ensuring high quality care continues to be delivered.

This opportunity requires working across two sites therefore the ability to travel will be required.

Main duties of the job

Under the guidance, supervision and direction of the Divisional Nurse Director the post-holder is the professional/clinical leader of the nurses and support staff within his/her sphere of responsibility.

The Matron will supervise the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care ensuring that nursing and corporate standards are implemented, maintained, monitored and improved upon where necessary.

The Matron will ensure that nursing and relevant support staff are led, managed and developed in order to enable them to deliver the highest standards of patient care and service. 

The Matron will provide a highly visible, accessible and authoritative presence in their area of responsibility. The Matron will be available to patients, their families and staff to provide assistance, advice and support and to address problems and concerns, as required.

As a member of the senior nursing team for the organisation, the Matron will act as a professional role model to all nurses and will take any corrective action to uphold the standards required of the Trust and the profession. This will include participating in service-specific shift arrangements to provide professional advice and leadership during evenings (including nights in extreme circumstances), weekends and bank holidays.

The Matron will be required to act up in professional or managerial capacity as required and appropriate.
