An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Women's and Children's Care Group for an enthusiastic professional to lead our education team within the Children and Young People area of our care group as a Practice Education Lead.
This role will be responsible for the leadership and the ongoing development and sustainability of high quality and innovative practice and educational development for all services working with Children & Young People. Our Care group is multi professional and covers acute and community teams across Morecambe Bay.
Supporting and developing education within CYP at Morecambe Bay.
Leading a team of ward based practice educators.
Whilst we have indicated Royal Lancaster Infirmary as the base for this post, candidates may be interested in their base being at our other main hospital site at Barrow-in-Furness. This is a cross bay role and the successful candidate would be expected to cover both sites.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for supporting role development and will act as a point of contact for advice and expertise on all matters relating to training and education.
The role will be integral to ensuring excellent communication with the senior nursing staff within the care group , Trust as well as with external agencies and Higher Education Institutes.
Liaising with the senior nursing team and relevant others, you will ensure the workforce development and education agendas are aligned and follow local and national guidance.
You will be reliable, flexible, motivated, have excellent managerial skills, a commitment to ongoing learning and development, a commitment to delivering high quality care and be willing and open to embracing positive change and transformation meeting the demands of the community we serve.
You must be registered with your professional body with extensive clinical experience.
Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life-threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Our community services for adults are provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- 1st level registered children’s nurse
- Teaching qualification e.g. City & Guild or Professional Trainers Cert.
- Mentoring Qualification Professional knowledge to Masters level or equivalent.
Experiance
Essential criteria
- Significant, relevant experience in an acute children’s setting
- Recent management/leadership experience
- Evidence of clinical competence and credibility in clinical speciality
- Evidence of teaching and developing staff.
Skills
Essential criteria
- Excellent teaching and presentation skills
- Ability to motivate & lead a clinical team.
- Continuing development of clinical leadership skills.
