An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Professional Midwifery Advocate (PMA) with relevant skills, experience and knowledge to join the Maternity  Team at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMB).
 
Morecambe Bay is one of the most picturesque parts of the country with the Lake District on our doorstep.
 
The post holder will be an autonomous practitioner who will offer specialist PMA knowledge, advice to UHMB maternity  Midwifery colleagues who are working both within the hospital and in the community.
 
The post holder will work closely with the Matrons, Head of Midwifery and Quality and Safety lead, and PMA who are clinically based within the service to ensure there is an sustainable PMA model within the organisation, which is monitored managed and developed. The role support the workforce element of the  3 year NHS delivery plan by providing restorative clinical supervision within the service.
 
You will be working as part of integrated Maternity  services  which works across the three main hospital sites - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow-in-Furness, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI) and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal 
 
You can choose the site where you would prefer to be based, but there will be an expectation that you can travel equally to the other sites as required.

The professional midwifery advocate role will provide oversight and development of the PMA service within the trust. Implement the ‘A EQUIP’ model of advocating and educating for quality improvement (NHSE 2017), which provides a continuous improvement process that builds upon personal and professional resilience of midwives to enhance the quality of care for women. To support midwives by providing and promoting regular sessions of Restorative Supervision (RCS) and embed a culture of openness, reflection and professional resilience.
To collaborate with the Maternity Quality and Safety team providing professional advice and supporting quality and cultural improvement.
To implement the national recommendations and reporting requirements for the Professional Midwifery Advocate (PMA) service.
To network with PMAs and PNAs throughout the LMNS and the wider network

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. 

FGH and the RLI have a range of  Maternity services, General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. 

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. 

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Core role and responsibilities Professional/Leadership
1.

To ensure that the PMA service has a vision, underpinning strategy and annual delivery plans, and that the strategy is refreshed every 3 years as a minimum (or in response to changes to national changes).

To ensure that the PMA strategy is co-designed with and co-produced with the midwifery workforce.
4.
To assist the Director of Midwifery to implement the national recommendations and PMA Standard Operating Procedure (when published).
5.
To regularly audit and report on the PMA actions, workstreams and outcomes. To ensure all local, regional and national reporting requirements including Key Performance Indicators (KPI) in relation to the PMA service are adhered to, escalating any issues to the Head of Midwifery/Director of Midwifery.
