Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Psychosis services, this role will work within Early Intervention and Psychosis service new strand which offers advice and support for people who may be having some unusual experiences that are causing them distress, or may be experiencing psychological problems.
This service aims to help people get their life back on track. Sometimes people need a bit of extra help. We can give you information and practical support.
Who do we help?
Young people between 14 and 35 who have been experiencing any of the following:
- confused or muddled thinking
- noticing that things and people seem strange and unreal
- being preoccupied with particular ideas or thoughts
- unusual experiences such as seeing or hearing things that others cannot see or hear
- feeling suspicious or paranoid about others
Sometimes, the young people we see also experience some of the following:
- feeling anxious, irritable or depressed
- disturbed patterns of sleeping or eating
- preferring to spend time alone, away from family and friends
- struggling to cope at school, college or work.
Who works for us?
The team will be made up of health professionals with a high level of training and experience in working with young people who are going through difficult times.
The role will be predominantly assessing within our criteria for First episode of Psychosis and those at risk of developing Psychosis
There are 3 vacancies, covering East, Mid and West Cornwall.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will be responsible for the assessment and identification of those at risk of developing psychosis or a first episode of psychosis through use of specialist assessment.
- To carry continuing responsibility for the development, implementation, and evaluation of recovery-based care programmes for those individuals who are experiencing or at risk of psychosis.
- The post holder may be required to engage with a range of statutory and non-statutory services to ensure a package of care is delivered to the individual and their family/carer.
- Demonstrate expertise in identifying neurodevelopmental disorders in children and young people in the presence of psychosis and make reasonable adjustments to their service, including communication preferences, to facilitate vocational and educational recovery and social functioning.
- The post holder will be required to take a lead in health promotion and teaching of other team members and staff from outside agencies.
- To take a lead role in team development, performance management and clinical audit.

Education and Qualification
Essential criteria
- Current professional registration NMC/HCPC
- Post graduate specialist training to degree level in relevant subject area
- Previous experience working with service users with a first episode of psychosis
Desirable criteria
- Advanced skills in CBT and Family Intervention

- Effective leadership and management skills
- Ability to lead, motivate and supervise a team of staff demonstrating the highest clinical standards
