Are you an enthusiastic and motivated individual with interest and experience of safeguarding children and young people?

An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic nurse with significant safeguarding children experience for a period of 6 months on a secondment basis.   

Applicants will need to demonstrate genuine commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of unborn babies, children and young people, with a specific focus on young people and the challenges of transitions

Main duties of the job

The role involves working closely with the Named Nurse/Midwife Safeguarding Children and the wider Safeguarding and transitions teams to ensure that the Trust meets the statutory responsibilities to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, young people and their families.

The post holder will provide advice, supervision, support and education to staff across the Trust, in relation to safeguarding children and unborn babies.

The team are committed to promoting a positive culture of safeguarding within the Trust to ensure it is embedded in daily practice

Working for our organisation

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers leadership and improvement training to all new staff to the Trust; this training programme has been designed to support our leaders in developing their understanding of leadership and management skills.  You will be expected to attend the leadership development programme, and the Quality Improvement Programme that the Trust delivers. This programme aims to:

•    Explore leadership within the NHS
•    Promote Trust Values and Behaviours
•    Develop your Leadership effectiveness and skills 
•    Practitioner level in quality improvement, equipping you with the skills to champion, lead and complete quality improvement within your role

After you complete this four and a half days of training you will be able to explore further leadership and improvement training opportunities, we offer further in-house courses dependent upon your role and bitesize programmes and leadership apprenticeships at level 3,5 and 7

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • NMC Registered Nurse
  • Degree/diploma in nursing
  • Evidence of recent & continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Masters level degree
  • Leadership Certificate
  • Qualification in Safeguarding Supervision
  • Recognised qualification in adult education

Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria
  • Current issues that relate to safeguarding children and adults and their practical application
  • Multi-disciplinary and partnership working and key responsibilities
  • Theoretical frameworks and indicators of abuse and neglect
  • Local and national Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews with an ability to translate learning into practice
  • Ability to provide safeguarding supervision
  • Ability to plan deliver and evaluation safeguarding children training
  • Ability to respond effectively to multiple competing priorities within a challenging environment
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge and understanding of child care law: national and local policies and procedures

Experience

Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in the NHS
  • Experience of delivering safeguarding supervision and an understanding of the supervision process
  • Experience in clinical audit
