An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Midwife to apply for the position of Labour Ward Co-ordinator.
East Cheshire Trust combines an obstetric led unit & an integrated birth centre for low risk women with access to two pool rooms.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic & forward thinking maternity team. Following an almost 3 year closure due to COVID we are very proud of our achievements in reinstating our inpatient service. You will become a valued member of our maternity unit, be part of an innovative team that will help us to excel further to deliver our Trust objectives & values. We are looking for an adaptable individual who has excellent interpersonal skills, works well as part of the multi-disciplinary team & has an ability to work under pressure, whilst moving the services forward.
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate previous experience of leadership and staff management skills with recent experience in the intrapartum area and be able to co-ordinate safe, high quality intra-partum care on a shift by shift basis.
Hours per week: 32 hours
Main duties of the job
Clinical Leadership and Practice
- To act as shift leader on labour ward and provide a high level of clinical expertise, leadership and management in the maternity department, obstetric theatre and community as required whilst supporting the Medical, Midwifery and support staff.
- To manage and co-ordinate staff and workload on the ante/postnatal and labour ward.
- To take a lead role in the management of acute obstetric emergencies.
- To be responsible for leading the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of care for mothers, babies and families during the intrapartum episode.
- To provide clinical, professional and managerial leadership and will have responsibility for the efficient running of the intrapartum care areas and Triage on a shift by shift basis.
- To focus upon professional and clinical issues as well as day to day operational management of area of responsibility.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) registered Midwife
- Relevant degree
- Evidence of CPD (Continuing Professional Development).
- Teaching certificate or Mentorship / Preceptorship certificate
- Evidence of Leadership course / Management training.
- Demonstrable experience operating in a leadership role with responsibilities such as service delivery.
Desirable criteria
- Willing to undertake degree.
- Willing to undertake Leadership / Management training
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- In depth knowledge of maternity services.
- Awareness of political issues affecting health and midwifery care.
