You will ideally be educated to Masters Level, with extensive experience in endoscopy, JAG accredited in Upper and Lower GI procedures, polypectomy and have a non-medical prescribing qualification. We also invite applicants with an interest in Colon Capsule reading but will provide training as part of this job role.
Our preferred candidate will be dynamic, dexterous, experienced, open, and confident to make decisions based on a sound up to date evidence base. You must be able to demonstrate both technical and non technical skills in managing a list safely, making decisions under pressure and co-ordinating care.
Endoscopy services are provided within the Treatment Centre at Leighton Hospital . The Suite consists of 5 endoscopy rooms . The Service is fully JAG accredited and has a team of dedicated nursing and decontamination staff.
The Trust also hosts the Cheshire Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to deliver an endoscopic service undertaking a range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
The post holder will act as a clinical expert and professional resource to the multi-professional team, patients and carers within their specialist service.
The post holder will contribute to the Senior Management Team on service improvement, taking a lead on speciality areas of clinical development within the service and participate in the implementation of standards relating to endoscopy for clinical audit, research and evaluating clinical effectiveness.
The majority of the role will be spent in providing direct clinical care and advice for gastro-intestinal and colorectal patients at the diagnostic stage of their care. This involves the utilisation of highly developed specialist knowledge, critical thinking and expert decision making skills in order to assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care for this cohort of patients.
To provide a Nurse-led diagnostic and therapeutic service within Endoscopy working to local and national protocols as an independent autonomous practitioner. The post holder will be expected to take part in regular timetabled lists, some of which may be in the evenings and at weekends.

To have attained Joint Advisory Group (JAG) accredited Basic Skills in the appropriate procedures and if undertaking therapeutics, to have completed the relevant JAG accredited course.
To have the knowledge and experience to be able to assess endoscopic referrals for appropriateness, following set protocols.
To advise, recommend or prescribe appropriate treatment for patients as per agreed protocols. Safely administer conscious sedation within agreed protocols to patient requiring endoscopy
Act as a key team member for the delivery of JAG and GRS standards including the implementation of improved clinical pathways and drive innovation via the use of clinical audit
We are seeking to appoint an influential and transformational senior Clinical Endoscopist for the Endoscopy Service at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Working within our busy Endoscopy unit you will ensure endoscopy is delivered in line with best practice with an excellent patient experience at the heart of what we do.
We are inviting applications from experienced Non-Medical (Clinical) Endoscopists with proven competence in undertaking colonoscopy and a range of other diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to support the service in developing the speciality.
As a senior Clinical Endoscopist you will have a key role in the provision of clinical services and training of staff working within the area in conjunction with the clinical and management team.
The successful candidate will also be a key team member for the delivery of JAG and GRS standards including the implementation of improved clinical pathways and driving innovation through the use of audit.
The Trust provides an extensive range of gastroenterology services including upper and lower endoscopy, ERCP, specialist inflammatory bowel disease clinics, a hepatology service and endo-capsule service. For those with an interest there will be opportunities to incorporate elements of the specialist services into the role.
