We are excited to announce a vacancy for a mental health nurse leadership post within the Specialist Mental Health (SMH) Care Group at Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for an innovative, passionate, and highly skilled mental health nurse who is an
exceptional leader, motivated to promote and capable to enable, high quality nursing care at all levels. Bringing about the best outcomes for our
services users, carers, and communities that we serve and best experiences for our nurses who provide care. The post holder will act as the
Professional Lead for Nursing in the SMH Care Group, working closely with both the Strategic Clinical Director and Associate Director of
Operations of the SMH Care Group and the Associate Director of Nursing and Therapies; Mental Health and Learning Disabilities.

Main duties of the job

To provide a professional voice for nursing across the SMH Care Group and to further develop the vision of the nursing contribution, to the
overarching ambitions of the SMH Care Group. Through effective networking and matrix working with peers, operational and professional leads,

and experts by experience across the SMH Care Group, this post will play a key role in identifying the nursing workforce’s transformative potential,
supporting innovation and new ways of working to meet current and future needs of the people of Cheshire and Wirral. A key priority will be
engaging, supporting, and maximising the potential of the senior nurse leaders to be at their best and to provide exceptional nurse leadership in
their own areas of practice and teams, including with Consultant Nurses, Modern Matrons and Advanced Clinical Practitioners. To participate in
the out of hour’s tier 2 on call rota.

As the Professional Lead for Nursing you will be a core member of the SMH Care Group Senior Leadership Team - the nurse professional
leadership contribution will be centred around:
• Care quality, improvement and research, patient safety and experience, clinical effectiveness, safer staffing, and service transformation.
• Clinical practice – working at an advanced clinical level in their own nursing practice, supporting, enabling, and advising on best nursing
practice and standards.
• Education – continuing professional development, workforce development, preceptorship, and student education.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • A professional qualification in nursing
  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • Demonstrable evidence of robust and extended continuous professional development
  • Post graduate qualification at Masters level or equivalent experience
  • Leadership qualification or equivalent experience
  • Qualification or demonstrable equivalent experience in Quality Improvement methodologies (QI)
Desirable criteria
  • Project or Programme management qualification

Knowledge and Expertise

Essential criteria
  • Highly developed nursing clinical skills in relevant clinical area
  • Very highly developed knowledge of nursing and national drivers supporting SMH Care Group services
  • Extensive knowledge of the healthcare system, including national, regional, and local policy drivers for nursing provision
  • Experience of service and business planning
  • Experience of leading successful organisational change and development
  • Highly developed understanding of place-based care and population health principles
  • Demonstrable experience of leading improvement activities involving multiple clinical disciplines
  • Exceptional verbal and written skills.

Experience

  • Extensive experience at a senior clinical or strategic level in a health or social care setting
