Job overview

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Ward Manager post on St Caradog Ward, our Adult Mental Health Acute Admissions Ward in  Haverfordwest. 

The Service strives to provide high quality acute inpatient mental health care to the local population. The post holder will need to demonstrate strong leadership skills and adaptability in the face of the day to day clinical, managerial and professional challenges. The successful applicant will be a Registered Mental Health Nurse and must have experience of working in an adult acute in-patient setting.

Main duties of the job

The day to day clinical leadership and management of the ward. 

Supporting staff and ensuring exemplary patient care is provided. 

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Person specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • RMN (RNMH)
  • Have or with equivalent experience prepared to undertake a recognised management qualification and or a specialist qualification related to working with individuals with serious enduring mental illness at postgraduate diploma level, or equivalent experience along with being prepared to undertake a recognized qualification at this level
  • Highly developed Specialist knowledge and expertise acquired through a combination of in depth experience and advanced training skills developed through specialist post registration training
  • Highly Specialist Knowledge of clinical area and client group required to perform effectively in the post
Desirable criteria
  • WNB 998/Practice Teacher Award and assessing or equivalent
  • HCR-20 Training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Leadership skills, current experience in area of practice or similar
  • Previous experience of supervising staff
  • Relevant previous experience of working in a multi-professional/agency setting

  • Experience at manager/leadership role
