We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual who will provide leadership to develop and implement immunisation plans to reduce inequalities in immunisation and improve uptake rates across the Health Board. We are seeking an individual with developed project management skills, and experience in governance processes and people. You will lead learning and development initiatives, drive innovation, foster a culture of conscious learning. You will ensure effective project management in Immunisation. and service development activities across Hywel Dda ensuring the implementation of Welsh Government and Public Health Wales' initiatives, Local and National Policies, and the National Immunisation Framework.
Main duties of the job
You will be a specialist clinical expert on a broad range of vaccination and immunisation matters, as well as having the expertise to plan and co-ordinate a local response to wider health protection priorities, working closely with the directorate's Health Protection Manager. Working with autonomy to provide highly specialised advice to colleagues across primary, secondary care and third sector organisations, you will support the clinical senior team to be able to deliver training across all relevant areas. Being the lead in the development of standards and audit to underpin best practice, you will evaluate new initiatives to improve immunisation uptake for our population health and wellbeing.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Our 12,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services for around 384,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales. We do this in partnership with our three local authorities and public, private and third sector colleagues, including our volunteers, through:
Four main hospitals: Bronglais General in Aberystwyth, Glangwili General in Carmarthen, Prince Philip in Llanelli and Withybush General in Haverfordwest;
Seven community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron, Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire Hospital Health and Social Care Resource Centre in Pembrokeshire;
47 general practices (6 of which are managed practices), 45 dental practices (including 4 orthodontic), 96 community pharmacies, 44 general ophthalmic practices (43 providing Eye Health Examination Wales and 34 low vision services) and 17 domiciliary only providers and 11 health centres;

Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will work as part of the Public Health Department and will be the Lead Nurse in HDUHB for all matters regarding immunisation and Health Protection and will be responsible for:
• Leading and coordinating the Health Protection and Immunisation service, ensuring provision of a comprehensive health prevention service across
the Health Board, providing assurance that the Health Board’s pandemic plans are fit for purpose.
• Leading the development of high-quality Health Protection and Immunisation services across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire
localities through the implementation of the local delivery plan, Welsh Government and Public Health Wales’ initiatives and National Policies.
• Acting as a source of specialist knowledge and expertise for professionals, the population and other stakeholders on all matters relating to health
protection, immunisations and vaccinations.

- Significant post registration nursing experience in community or public health nursing
- Significant experience of working in health protection, immunisation and vaccination services
- Experience of working with WG Immunisation Lead and implementation of WG initiatives and national policies
- Experience of partnership working with Public Health, Heads of services, Primary Care and independent contractors
- Experience of developing services in disease outbreak situations
- Experience of staff and service management
- Experience of training and facilitating staff and practice development
- Experience of research and audit
- Experience of policy development
- Experience of project management

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Professional nursing qualification
- Educated to Master’s level or equivalent level of experience
- Professional knowledge acquired through post registration qualification relevant to speciality
- Able to demonstrate extensive highly specialised knowledge of the health protection, immunisation and vaccination agenda.
