Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated registered Staff Nurse to work within our modern forward thinking Cardiology Unit at Glangwili General Hospital.

The unit consists of 6 Acute Coronary Care beds and 7 Cardiac Stepdown beds. We also have the facility to monitor 14 Telemetry beds on adjoining wards.

We care for patients admitted with a variety of conditions including myocardial infarction, heart failure, endocarditis, cardiac arrhythmias, cardioversions, pulmonary embolisms and strokes requiring thrombolysis.

Glangwili's Cardiac Care Unit is also the repatriation centre for Hywel Dda for ST elevation patients post primary percutaneous cardiac intervention. Working closely with our four Cardiac Consultants we offer a permanent pacemaker, transesophageal echocardiography and dobutamine stress echo service for the whole of Hywel Dda University Health Board.

As part of our friendly, supportive, professional team you will work closely with other specialities within the Hospital caring for acutely ill patients who need cardiac monitoring on the unit. We encourage anyone with an interest in cardiac nursing team to apply. Main duties of the job

Assess the patients nursing needs, plans, implements and evaluates nursing care in order to ensure the delivery of effective patient care. Assess patient’s suitability for discharge following medical review and instigate discharge planning arrangements. Liaise with multidisciplinary teams as appropriate to assist in complex discharge planning.

Carries out procedures in relation to care of patients e.g. catheterisation, removal of sutures, aseptic technique. To ensure that the patient is safely prepared for investigations and escorted to/from theatre.
Recognises and responds appropriately to urgent and emergency situations. 

Ensure the principles set out in the Fundamentals of Care are incorporated into daily practice to ensure a high quality service for service users. Ensure that patients and carers/relatives are involved in the planning and delivery of care, acknowledging person beliefs, identity and preferences of service users.

Ensure patient needs are met by working collaboratively with other professionals and agencies, especially in relation to ongoing care needs. 

Registered with the NMC to enable them to practice within their profession and acts in accordance with the NMC’s Code of Conduct. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that all resources within the area are used to an optimum effect.
