Maternity Support Worker - Peterborough/Huntingdon

Band 3 Maternity Support Workers (MSW's) provide direct clinical care to all women and babies accessing maternity services. Band 3 MSW's may serve as a point of contact/support for women and their families and provide clinical, physical, psychological and emotional care and support; they provide appropriate information and where necessary, signpost to wider support organisations. They report to registered practitioners where planned delegated care has been provided.

A Maternity Support Worker will support the wider multidisciplinary team to provide care and support to service users and their babies.
This will include
- Care of the service user
- Care of the baby
- Infant Feeding
- Managerial/Leadership
- Administration
Plus specialists tasks following appropriate training and assessment

A Maternity Support Worker must
- Behave in a professional manner and ensure effective communication with colleagues, women and their families.
- Work to promote individualised care, specific to the needs of the woman and her family, acting as an advocate within the multidisciplinary team in the absence of the midwife
- Work under the supervision of the designated midwife and part of the Multidisciplinary team, undertake direct clinical care and appropriate interventions to maximise a positive service user experience, promoting the physical and mental wellbeing of mother and baby.
- Participate in the collection and recording of written and electronic data, in line with Trust guidelines and policies.
- Work in partnership with women and professionals both internally and externally to the Trust in order to provide effective network of care for women.
- Identify and escalate deviation from the normal when undertaking care
- Participate in the delivery of National Health objectives and initiatives.
- Act as an advocate for the department, in promoting respectful and flexible team working across areas.
- Proactively, consistently and meaningfully demonstrate the Trust values on their day to day interactions with colleagues and service user

Education/Qualification
Meini prawf hanfodol
- 5 GCSE level C/4 or above or equivalent plus experience and values, or 3 A Levels (or equivalent, or Cert HE, or Level 2 Apprentice in Health
- Level 2 Functional skills in maths and English if not at GCSE

- Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support (Maternity option) / Maternity and Paediatric support
Experience

- Experience of IT skills, and use of email systems
- Experience working with the public and customer care skills

- Previous clinical experience within health and social care setting relevant to role
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
